Mission: The purpose of the organization shall be to: to provide accountability to the board of directors/trustees of the st. Charles hospital ("the hospital") for services provided and rendered to all patients admitted to the hospital or treated in the outpatient department maintaining a level of quality, safety and efficiency which is consistent with generally recognized standards of care, irrespective of age, sex, race, creed, color, national origin, blindness or source of payment, except for fiscal capability thereof and for any other legally protected category. To provide a means whereby issues concerning the medical staff and the hospital may be discussed and resolved by authorized representatives of the medical staff with the board of trustees and the chief executive officer. Programs: To represent the medical staff of st. Charles hospital pursuant to the medical staff's membership in the suffolk conty medical society. The suffolk county medical society acts as the premier professional medical association for the physicians of suffolk county by maintaining a representative and united organization to consider and act upon matters affecting the practice of medicine and public health in suffolk county; cultivating and advancing education in the science of medicine while maintaining a high standard of integrity, honor and courtesy in the medical profession; proactively identifying and responding to the evolving needs and interests of physician members by interacting with managed care organizations, third party payors, legislative and public interest groups, appropriate regulatory agencies etc. , contributing to the professional and personal development of member physicians by representing the profession as a whole; serving as a resource for its members and assisting them in addressing the many issues and needs which they face in providing cost effective, high quality health care to their patients; preserving the doctor-patient relationship while assuring access to quality medical care for all; and acting as an advocate for patients in dealing with health related issues

The appointment process is conducted through examination of the professional's competence, ethics and character including examination of references, and appraisal's from the medical department in which privileges are sought. This process is conducted by members of the medical staff affairs department and reviewed by the officers and others of the organization. The employees that comprise the medical staff affairs department are paid by the hospital. This process helps to advance the competency and credentials of the medical staff thereby furthering quality medical care to all patients treated in the hospital.

arrange for medical staff meetings and socials. Medical staff meetings and socials are conducted throughout the year. The meetings and socials help to further the compentency and comradare of the medical staff thereby furthering quality medical care to all patients treated in the hospital.
provide non-monetary appreciation and condolence gifts to medical staff. Such appreciation/condolence gifts are given to applicable medical staff members. The giving of appreciation and condolence gifts to the medical staff helps with staff morale thereby furthering the quality of care at st. Charles hospital.
