People ask me how I got involved with McGuire Memorial since it is an organization devoted to serving individuals with multiple, complex and profound disabilities. I have no family member with these characteristics so why am I involved? I became involved over 10 years ago because a friend who was a Foundation board member asked me to come for a tour of the main facility and meet Sister Thaddeus, the CEO. I agreed - what would it hurt - and was so impressed with what I saw and heard, I found myself anxious to be accepted onto the Foundation Board. This is a bit of a surprise to me since I know fundraising to be uncomfortable and always an uphill battle competing with so many other worthy causes. However, I learned that the caring and loving work of the McGuire staff actually made a difference in the lives of these overwhelmingly challenged clients! One would not believe there was any mental activity going on inside some of these individuals, that they would not have an opinion as to what food to have for lunch or whether they wanted to go for a wheelchair walk outside or swing on a swing. Yet, with a specialized communication device, for example, the client is able to express his/her desires rather than have a staff member make seemingly innocuous choices for him/her. Such devices, just to name one piece of equipment, are designed and fabricated specifically for one individual based on his/her specialized needs. Such a device easily runs into the thousands of dollars for one individual, but what a difference such a device makes! I knew right then that whatever amount of time I was able to devote to this organization actually would make a difference! It was the least I could do since I have been fortunate enough to have a healthy family of my own and, but for the grace of God, it could be me. We have been so blessed with the involvement of a number of "angels" who have shared their time, talents or treasure with McGuire Memorial that our hard work in preparing for our major fundraisers, an annual auction and an annual celebrity golf outing have actually become a joy. The Foundation Board is a close-knit group whose individuals not only care deeply for one another, but we also have a lot of fun in the process! My involvement has added such meaning to my life and I know that I have been able to improve the quality of life for a number of individuals who are relying on me to have their needs met. What can be more important than that? Feel free to learn more at McGuireMemorial.org. Join us with your time, treasure or talent if you can.
McGuire Memorial Foundation makes extraordinary efforts to raise much-needed funds to benefit the clients of McGuire Memorial. It is truly amazing what the tiny staff of three has accomplished. They manage to infuse the Board members with continued enthusiasm and provide seemingly limitless support for each of the meetings and events so that the Board members are able to fully participate in all aspects of the Foundation's mission.
Of course, the beneficiaries of the Foundation's efforts, McGuire Memorial, is always in the foreground of the Foundation's work. McGuire Memorial makes it easy to put heart and soul into the Foundation's projects and events as it provides such an essential service to the community as a whole by caring for individuals with profound special needs.
I am proud to be an active Board Member of the McGuire Memorial Foundation and hope to continue in this role for a long time.
When you walk in the doors at McGuire Memorial you can feel the power of great people doing great work for great people
Your heart opens up because you feel the love and see the good this fine organization has and continues to do for some very special people that are on this earth.
I am proud to be part of McGuire and give a little back
I've known about the great work of McGuire Memorial for 40 years. Presently, as a Board Member, I have first hand knowledge of the wonderful work taking place at McGuire. I am constantly impressed with all of the improvements in order to make life better for each and every one of their clients. McGuire really is a very special place for God's very special people.
A taste of heaven here on earth is how I would describe my experience with McGuire Memorial Home! My background as a teacher naturally allows me to focus on details and concern for those in need. What I have observed at McGuire is beyond the ordinary. On a personal level, I have seen Sister M. Thaddeus and her staff interact with the children and adults many times. This nuturing partership is to be envied by all who walk the halls of McGuire. In the true Franciscan spirit, I pray a DEO GRATIAS for all whose mission is to care for the less fortunate.
I have been involved with McGuire since it began more than 40 years ago. I was an aid then to the sisters during the summer months. Our number of clients was small as we began but what has lasted all these years is WHAT THE CLIENT NEEDS, WE WILL DO WHAT IT TAKES TO HELP HIM ATTAIN. I have had the special opportunity of seeing McGuire grow, progress and branch out from a one building loving home to a many faceted real HOME for the clients with program rooms, an Adult Training facility, group homes, employment option center, the School at McGuire. In the 60's I was the Teacher in a class of 12-15 very young children. Later as a board member on and off for over 25 years, I marvel at the what the staff has accomplished through the foresight and leadership of SisterT. and her Senior staff members. A more professional, focused, forward advancement group you could never find. McGuire is an unrepeatable blessing for every client. The client is center of all that McGuire attains.

I have been on the Board of Directors for a number of years and McGuire NEVER ceases to amaze me. Their care for their clients is above outstanding. I have been to a number of McGuire fund raising events and have NEVER experienced a fundraiser so moving as I did last February.
McGuire main and "The School at McGuire" well you have to see it to believe it. Words cannot express the happiness in the eyes of the clients at McGuire. The staff is very cheerful and seem very happy to work at McGuire.
My family has been involved with this organization for over 50 years . They provide dably needed services to a whole array of clients that have severe mental and physical disabilities . The amount of services needed continues to grow within our geographic area . Our school for autistic children has grown to about 100 full time students and has only been open for several years . Prioir to that, we had a small school within our main facility which helpd our full time residents and some students for outside school districts .
Our resident facility, which has been providing services for over 50 years, is a place where those afflicted with both severe memtal and physical disabilities can be cared for in both a loving and professional environment . The staff of McGuire is just awesome and to experience just how they interact and care for our residents is special .
McGuire is a special place and one that deserves any support you can give it !
I recently joined the McGuire Memorial Foundation Board after several years of contact with other Board members and serving on the auction committee. McGuire Memorial is one of the most inspiring organizations that I have had the privilege to be connected with. It is evident at every level that the adminstration and staff care about providing the best possible experience for their children and adults and their families. And the spirit and passion of the organization is infectious and inspires all who come in contact with it.
I was first asked to visit McGuire by a business colleague 10 years ago. From my first visit I was totally captivated by the mission of McGuire -- to enable individuals with significant disabilities to live life to the fullest -- and their obvious success in meeting that objective on a daily basis. A tour of the residence and school on any given day is a living testimonial to this success. McGuire is grounded in the passion around their mission and everyone associated with it, from senior executives through the direct care staff, exhibits this passion on a consistent basis.
I have been a foundation board member for four years, but more importantly am a parent of a resident of McGuire. The Foundation has done amazing things to improve the quality of life of residents. One of many, is that the Foundation supports the building and renovating of community homes for what were institutional residents to become part of the community and enjoy community life to the fullest extent. Through charitable donations, the Foundation provides an exemplary home setting for community residents which allows them to florish. The Foundation also provides critical support to The School at McGuire which provides desparately needed services to community resident children with disabilities. The Foundation is a stellar example of how charitable giving can greatly impact our communities and families!
Review from Guidestar
I learned of McGuire several years ago, while my sister was working there as an aide in the summer. The things she told me about how McGuire strives to give every one of its clients a quality, wholesome life lived to the fullest -- despite the clients' profound disabilities -- moved me deeply. I became a supporter of McGuire's over the years, and later volunteered to help with fundraising activities. Since joining the board of McGuire Memorial Foundation in 2009, I have seen first hand just how deeply McGuire cares for its clients and their families. The services McGuire provides are highly personalized, extremely attentive, and aim to maximize the self-worth of each of its clients. It is a source of constant amazement and inspiration to me!
My involvement with the Board of Directors of the McGuire Memorial Foundation and with the President and CEO of McGuire Memorial has convinced me that this organization is most worthy of charitable support. As the fund raising arm for McGuire Memorial, the McGuire Memorial Foundation provides resources needed to acquire equipment and assistive technology designed to enhance the lives of every individual served by McGuire Memorial. Charitable support is also responsible for funding the start-up of new programs and services as well as acquiring specialized curriculum and classroom materials for The School at McGuire Memorial.
