Mayo clinic health system sites employ approximately 1,000 physicians and 15,000 allied health staff. In addition, mayo clinic physicians from multiple specialties regularly see patients at health system facilities. Besides having health care facilities in nearly 70 communities, mayo clinic health system includes 19 owned hospitals, five owned nursing homes, physician service agreements with one additional hospital, and contract management agreements with two additional hospitals and one nursing home. The corporations' expenditures shall be for (a) the purchase, lease renovation, or modernization of buildings, furniture, fixtures, and equipment, (b) educational programs, and (c) in all other ways aiding and supporting tax exempt health organizations and their related activities in the county and surrounding counties of la crosse, wisconsin including those located in minnesota and iowa. In the past year, grants were awarded to support programs and services including: gerard hall, hospice, st. Clare health mission, spiritual care and other programs; patients and families through the thunder ride, oasis, st. Francis and danny mitby funds; staff education and medical research; facilities and equipment; and support of community initiatives including financial assistance to non-profit organizations for the purchase of automatic external defibrillators.
