Causes: Disaster Aid, Fire Prevention, Search & Rescue Squads
Mission: The object of the department shall be the saving of lives, and the protection of property endangered by fires and other disasters, and to promote the teaching and practice of fire prevention and protection.
Programs: During 2012, may vfd participated in 70 call-outs and agency-assist calls assisting other local fire departments as needed. These ranged from fighting fires to rendering medical assistance at vehicle accidents, attending to personal injuries at homes, farms and ranches, helping with first aid in medical emergencies and assisting in many call-outs in cooperation with other local volunteer fire departments and the texas forest service. In 2012, the may vfd continued to work diligently to maintain our fire fighting equipment needed for the next heavy fire season, as well as safety equipment needed for responding to vehicle accidents. This was accomplished through grants and public donations. In 2012 the may vfd accomplished a major goal with the construction of a new fire station building. The building was constructed on a 1 acre plot of land adjacent to the old fire station. The new building replaces an old wwii barracks building and positions the department to provide efficient services for many years to come. The successful completion of the new fire station building is the result of several years of planning and fundraising by the membership.
