My experience with Matthew 25 AIDS Services has been deeply disappointing. As someone living with HIV, I expected an organization committed to inclusivity, equity, and meaningful support for people living with HIV (PLHIV). However, I found that the organization lacks representation of PLHIV in its leadership, staff, or board, which undermines its ability to serve the community authentically.
Additionally, I encountered discriminatory practices and a lack diversity. Repeated attempts to address these issues with the leadership were ignored, and the organization’s environment did not feel collaborative or supportive.
Matthew 25 receives substantial funding and is the only HIV services organization in the area, yet it fails to create a safe and empowering space for PLHIV. I strongly urge the organization to reevaluate its policies, prioritize lived experience in its hiring practices, and address issues of white supremacy, serophobia, and lack of inclusivity to better serve the community it claims to support.
