Thanks to the efforts of MLERF, I have been able to receive world-class eye care at one of the premier eye car institutes in Boston. Without their efforts, it is possible I could have gone many years before discovering my specific eye condition because it's fairly uncommon and while hereditary, I was adopted and was unable to track this condition back to family members.
As a member of the Northampton Lions Club I was well aware of the fundraising efforts of MLERF. Last year I was asked to be on the Board of Directors for this amazing organization. I can now experience first hand the honor and excitement of being involved with the fundraising efforts to provide the seed monies for research with the preservation and restoration of sight for people affected by vision loss. MLERF has over a 60 year history for raising funds donating over 32 million dollars to Boston area research institutes. One hundred percent of the monies raised are used for research grants. Go MLERF!!!!!

Without grants from the Mass Lions Eye Research Foundation ground breaking research toward ending preventable blindness would be curtailed. These grants provide the seed money necessary for researchers to prove their work.
I highly recommend Massachusetts Lions Eye Research. This organizations provides research money to Eye Institutes for projects that will improve vision and prevent vision loss. Some of these research projects include studies on Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, and Premature Baby Blindness.
Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund (MLERF) is the leading organization for funding emerging, cutting-edge vision research in New England. From their first grant of $5,000 over 60 years ago that solved the riddle as to why pre-mature infants were going blind in incubators, to today's drug-eluding contact lenses for Glaucoma, MLERF has been at the forefront of financial support that has changed the lives of tens of thousands of individuals across New England and across the globe.
I have been a Lion for 38 years and during the 38 years I have watched Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund do amazing things, break ground toward eliminating Blindness though ouy the world.
MLERF has provided over $32 million in research grants since its founding and is one of the very few funds or foundations that provides grants for PURE research. EVERY penny that is donated to MLERF goes to research. No donations are used for any expenses. All the work of the MLERF is done by Lions who are volunteer members of Lions Clubs International, the largest service organization in the world. The first grant made by MLERF of $5,000 led to the discovery of the cause of Retinopathy of Prematurity or "baby blindness."
100 per cent of donations go to research. Refers Lions and non-Lions to doctors in Boston. All Board of Directors receive no pay.
