Mission: The Martínez Street Women’s Center supports the active participation of women and girls in the pursuit of their own physical, emotional and social well-being. We are a resource center providing education, referrals, advocacy, and health outreach for women, their partners, and their families. Our target population is women and girls who face barriers accessing health care and education.
Geographic areas served: San Antonio
Programs: The girl zone program enhances academic potential, nurtures high selfesteem and supports the healthy development of girls age 9-14. We provided long- term education services to 202 girls at 7 sites in the 2013 - 2014 academic year at san antonio independent school district, including after school, spring break and summer programs. the community health program strengthens families by increasing access to preventative health services and enhancing the knowledge and awareness of health issues in our community. Breast health education "2493 breast cancer education participants with 85% demonstrating an improved knowledge of breast cancer risks, screening and prevention "71 participants received referrals and navigation for life-saving breast cancer screenings. "142 families were engaged in our nurturing parenting program, with 86% showing improvement in parenting knowledge and skills known to prevent child abuse "during door-to-door outreach, we identified 412 residents at high nutritional risk, and 100% received increased nutritional assistance (food pantry assistance and benefits). Promoting advocacy and leadership among women and girls, we conducted non- partisan voter phone calling efforts with over 15,000 latina and latino residents, providing basic voter awareness information.
