Volunteering in the MANNA kitchen is the most fulfilling and meaningful volunteer experience of my life. Playing a role in nourishing others, bring part of a "family" so to say...amongst the staff that run the kitchen and teams of volunteers that show up daily ...is absolutely heartwarming. Knowing that each person is there to serve with some strong personal motivation combined with the total group effort makes this organization particularly unique. When I have a dinner party in my home, everyone winds up in the kitchen...this we know to be true. And it's not just me, it seems that the kitchen is where we are most comfortable, most relaxed, most eager to help, most honest, most happy, most....ourselves. Somehow, The MANNA kitchen has this magical warmth. MANNA ...is a family.

Causes: Food, Health, Health Support, Meals on Wheels, Nutrition
Mission: Especially for people at acute nutritional risk from life-threatening illnesses, MANNA prepares and delivers delicious nourishing meals and counsel, empowering individuals to battle illness and improve their quality of life. More than 2,500 dedicated volunteers work with MANNA's professional chefs and dietitians to prepare medically tailored meals from scratch and deliver them to clients throughout the greater Philadelphia region who are coping with illnesses including cancer, renal failure and HIV/AIDS. Registered dietitians work with clients and their families to improve their understanding of the impact of nutrition on their medical condition to increase self-sufficiency. All services are free of charge to the client.
Results: Founded in 1990, MANNA has delivered more than 10 million delicious nutritious meals. Our groundbreaking, peer-reviewed, published research has proven that food is medicine and our clients experience improved health and decreased health care costs. Geographic areas served: the greater Philadelphia region
Programs: Provide home delivered meals as well as nutritional counseling and education to those living with life threatening illnesses such as hiv/aids, cancer, diabetes in the greater philadelphia area. During the fiscal year ended june 30, 2014 and 2013, manna served 676,164 and 812,797 meals, respectively. Also, for the years ended june 30, 2014 and 2013, manna provided meal services to 1,802 and 1,908 consumers, respectively, and nutritional counseling to 1,750 and 1,959 consumers, respectively.
