I recently had the pleasure of working with M.I.L.K. through their Enterprise Development Program, and was overwhelmed by their attention and concern for my organization. While on a self-imposed sabbatical from my work at a Catholic parish, I hit upon an idea that my wife and I were convinced could (and should) be transformed into a nonprofit business. I was new to the nonprofit world at the time, and often found that I didn't always know what I didn't know, especially when it came to navigating the IRS en route to applying for 501(c)3 status. However, with missionary hearts, those at M.I.L.K. took my organization in hand and actually made the process look easy. I am grateful to have the opportunity to sing the praises of Milkmoney1.org, an organization which epitomizes the spirit of “Great Nonprofits.” I have fallen on hard times and no longer have the financial resources or the physical capabilities to properly maintain my yard. In the past, I've received notices from my vigilant HOA threatening fines, and I struggled to afford basic yard work. I had tried several local yard cleanup crews over the years; some were unreliable, many seemed to overcharge me considerably, and most did not do an adequate job. I learned about this terrific organization nearly two years ago, and I have been very fortunate to have the wonderful team of courteous and hardworking volunteers help me with my yard on numerous occasions. It is not just about the fact that I can always count on them to show up as scheduled or that they do an excellent job sprucing up my yard and cleaning up after they are done, it is even more about the fact that they accomplish it all with a very helpful attitude and make me feel like someone cares about me. They never make me feel like a charity case. Barb Scott truly lives up to her mission statement: “make an investment in love and kindness” with her gracious altruism and compassionate willingness to be of service. She has an incredibly generous heart. I consider Milkmoney1.org a wonderful, model organization which sets an admirably high bar for what a truly great Non Profit should aspire to be.
