I was a Make A Wish child back in the late 1990s My wish was to play with the Disney World band and it was Awesome! I played the baritone horn at the time and was only good at easy music, but, the director at the time Major Mike met with me early at went over several pieces of music with me before going outside to a central location where he'd had someone set up enough chairs and music stands for the entire group and myself! This band usually only plays while marching around the Disney property, but because of my situation: having brain cancer and as a result of surgery to remove that cancer, I became legally blind and couldn't march, so everyone in the band sat down to play with me! After playing about about three Disney songs, Major Mike let me direct the band in a couple of songs! I really loved directing too! I will continue to raise finances for and support The Make A Wish Foundation as long as I can, And no, MAW does not require their recipients to collect donations for them but doing anything to help those who help children with life-threatening illnesses have what is for many of them is sometimes the final wish of their life! My wish was granted by the Make A Wish Foundation of Eastern Virginia in Virginia Beach, VA!
