Mission: The Make-A-Wish Foundation of East Tennessee was founded in 1988 as a chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. We serve 36 counties in East Tennessee, which includes the Chattanooga, Knoxville, and Tri-Cities areas. We are a separate 501C3 corporation that grants the wishes of children in the East Tennessee area that are faced with a life threatening medical condition. We are comprised of mostly volunteers and a small paid staff. We believe doctors provide the medicine and we provide the magic that renews their young spirits. We provide hope and happiness. We believe what we do is part of a child's overall treatment. Many of our children go on to live healthy and happy lives. There is nothing like the power of a wish.
Programs: The make-a-wish foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy. For the fiscal year ended august 31, 2014, the foundation granted 62 wishes. Total cost of wishes granted for the fiscal year were $572,049. Of this amount, $57,598 was contributed by various vendors who provided in-kind contributions such as travel and travel services, transporation, lodging, and other services and use of facilities to complete a child's wish for financial statement purposes, these amounts are included as contribution revenue and granted wish expense for form 990, however, the irs requires the $57,598 of contributed services and use of facilities to be excluded from both revenue and expense.
