Causes: Human Service Organizations, Human Services
Mission: Madison county house of hope is an organization created to assist those dealing with alcoholism and drug addiction to find a new life and purpose in and through jesus christ, develop self-discipline and skills to reenter society. Daily bible study, community service and prayer are the most significant activities of each day.
Programs: The exempt purpose of the company is multi-faceted ministry. The first part is to provide food, shelter, clothing and a safe comfortable environment to allow individuals to get off the streets and into shelter. In addition, these individuals will be required to commit to the teaching of god's word through bible study. They will be expected, in time, to volunteer to work with various churches and individuals in our community. They will be expected to attend recovery classes for various addictions. Our primary goal is to make disciples of christ of these individuals so that they can serve others that have the same challenges. The ministry does not charge for any of the services that are provided and sustains itself through contributions from individuals, churches and other entities that are willing to support it. As mentioned in previous years, our facility has many issues as it was originally built in around 1966. In the prior year we described various improvements to these buildings, this year is no different. We were able to paint more dorms, replace windows and install kitchen shelving, to name a few. Additionally, in this year we purchased another school owned building that is located just to the south of our main building. The purchase was completed in late 2016. We immediately replaced showers and restrooms in it so that individuals could begin useing it for dorm space. Many more upgrades are planned as we experience growth in the resident population. Vehicles continue to play a vital role in accomplishing our mission. In 2016 we saw an increase in repairs due to the need for these assets. These vehicles are used to move people that are enrolled in the program. They need transportation to go to work, attend special events, make court appearances, attend parol meetings and many other destinations. We also purchased three used vehicles. All are used and in need of repair from time to time. In 2016 the population of enrolled individuals was as high as 72 living at the house of hope and working in the program. Some of these people had to sleep in the gym because of a lack of space. Of those enrolled in the program, 15 graduated the 12 month program and moved into the private sector. These individuals are from an assortment of trades and are now working as electricians, welders and in the oil field. Some are working in the madisonville area while others have left to places like west texas. Unfortunately not all these people were successful in staying off drugs and alcoho. Some are back. There's a phrase at the house of hope - "you must stay plugged in" in that you must be in god's word and in and amoung people like yourself that are trying to keep straight. While we have failures along the way, we feel that we are successful at keeping these people off the streets and productive. They're living happier lives and turning their focus to others. Not all can make it but many if not all are blessed by this endeavor.
