I had never volunteered much until I got involved with Habitat for Humanity. I was not working during the summer of 2020. I wanted to do something different and my wife suggested I volunteer. I looked into it and decided to sign up. I am not a handy man at all. I volunteered at one of the build projects in Eastpointe. All the staff working showed me how to do things I was amazed with myself. I never used a Miter Saw, or insulated an attic or laid trim, or even installed wood flooring. I learned all these things and more thanks to the patient people (Surace), and his crew. I have helped with Habitat for Humanity on another job site and probably donated about 100 hours of my time to this organization. I have donated money many times to the organization but when I donated my time I get a bigger sense of worth. Thank you Habitat for helping me discover I can do the things to help myself and other people.
I would highly recommend volunteering for Macomb County Habitat for Humanity! Our office of 14 people took a day and helped at their ReStore. It was a great team building activity and allowed us some time to give back to the community. Dave was a great at keeping us on track and laughing for most of the day.
