Causes: Health, Medical Disciplines
Mission: Family medicine education in the context of excellent patient care
Programs: As part of the residency program: an average of 18 family practice residents were trained in a private office and hospital setting. The ultimate goal of the program is to provide a source of family practitioners to rural, underserved areas through practice in the private office setting. Lynchburg family practice residency provides needed medical services to patients in supervised settings. In 2011 there were 20,872 visits of which 34% were either medicaid or uninsured patients. Many of these patients had no primary care physician and included a disproportionate share of indigent patients. The organization continues to seek innovative pathways to achieve integration of the regional healthcare system. We believe that integration with physician practices is a critical element in the effort to assure seamless, high quality care for all patients by providing a platform for the effortless transfer of clinical information to all participants in the care of the patient. As we achieve integration with physician practices we can begin to standardize information systems while we break down the barriers to effective information transfer, thereby reducing errors and redundant efforts.
