My main and most recent contacts have been with the resettled refugees ministered to by the LSS Services for New Americans program. The LSS staff and volunteers are both compassionate and dedicated. They work hard, smart, during long hours to ease the difficult transition from the terrible situation in overseas camps into the challenges of total immersion in an American community. I have heard many of these newcomers testify to the deep and lasting impact that LSS has had, and continues to have on their lives. Volunteers help by providing transportation, teaching English, mentoring, helping find employment, advocating for services and in a host of other ways. Donations of clothing, household items, and gifts (such as sponsoring driving lessons) have an immeasurably effect on a refugee families’ quality of life and their rate of adjustment.

Having had direct and frequent contact with both staff and clients served, I can attest that LSS makes a meaningful positive impact on the lives of people served by the organization. I have met clients who talk in glowing terms about their caseworkers and have personally witnessed the passion and desire of the staff to serve, and to do it well.
