Mission: The mission of Lutheran Braille Workers, Inc. is to bring the message of free salvation to blind and visually impaired persons by providing them with the Bible and other Christian literature in Braille and Large Print. LBW was founded in 1943 by Helene Lowe Koehler who became passionately interested in providing Scriptures to sightless individuals in Germany where most of the German Biblical Braille was destroyed. Now, 60 years later, more than 5,500 rostered volunteers contribute their time and energy to produce material in 206 work centers located throughout the United States and Canada. Today, blind and visually impaired persons of 123 countries receive scriptural material in 32 languages from LBW.
