I have been trying for over a year to rescue a lab. My experience with this group is that if you want a dog go somewhere else. I run a profitable business and if I got little or no responses to my clients, I would be out of business. Very difficult to get any response to the point of frustration with them.

We adopted a lab mix from this shelter. She has been fun, smart and loving and we would not trade her for anything. I'm just glad we got her away from that place. When we arrived at the shelter (out in the country), we heard a lot of crazy barking in a smallish shed near where we parked. I asked if we could go in the shed to see the "pups"... I assumed that perhaps the whole litter of pups was in there and possibly the mother of the female we planned to adopt. The woman in charge met us at our car. She seemed terribly nervous and in a hurry to get us gone. She said that people "don't go in there" (referring to the shed), and said that her son would bring our pup out of the house after we finished the paperwork. I would't give up and said I REALLY wanted to see the other dogs... (I've worked in a shelter before and loved what those people were doing for abandoned dogs, so I was just plain interested. She gave up and took us in. It was dark and was full of crates stacked on top of each other. Some of the dogs were big and looked "mean" and some just looked scared. One chocolate lab in particular was cringing in the back of her crate which was at the bottom of the stack. I tried talking to the pup, but she just shied away. I don't know for sure, and I have no proof, but I bet that if she stood up, her nipples would show evidence of many litters of pups, and would not be surprised if the was the mother of our dog. (We were told that our pup's mother was a chocolate lab.) I would not be surprised if that dog was being used as a source of income for this "rescue".
It was obvious why the "woman in charge" was nervous and wanted to keep us out of that shed. Those dogs were suffering an awful fate and not up for adoption. Go to "Lucky Labs" in Indiana, and see for yourself, PLEASE.

Three years ago we adopted the sweetest 7 and a half year old chocolate lab mix (Pink).. Everyone loves her.. She loves to ride in our automobiles especially our 1972 corvette.
She certainly has made this her forever home. We are both retired, so she gets Allot of special attention. We can not understand why it took so long for her to find her forever home. She does have a special menu which we happily fix from scratch. Thank you Lucky Lab.
You made our application process simple and we were able to pick her up within a week. She sleeps with us, loves her coats, loves us and we love her so very much. She has gotten us through these tough Covid times as she goes just about everywhere with us.
Yea I can not have her back. She is a true member of our family.
Even kids in our neighborhood come over to say hello just for her. What a beautiful dog .

Question their validity. They turn down many adoptee applicants with ludicrous explanations. Ours was we had a dog door to our fenced backyard that could result in a pet's death if they went out unsupervised to said fenced back yard. They even included death by bee sting!

Stay away, far, far away. We are looking to adopt a lab for a pet and to do CGC and therapy dog work with later. We applied to this organization and we were approved to adopt. We spoke with the coordinator who was nice on the phone, we texted back and forth about 3 different dogs over a couple of weeks. I also spoke to the foster for one dog , who is an awesome lady with a great family. We decided to meet her and arranged a time with the foster. We met at the foster's moms house, and, while the dog seemed nice, she was hesitant and we had to try and get her to pay us any attention at all. The foster's mom's dog was more interested in us than the dog we were looking to adopt.
When I told the coordinator that we think she's a great dog, she's just not our dog (because she wouldn't pay any attention to us unless coaxed...a lot). We were told that the "board" had met (with short notice, on a Saturday afternoon??) and decided to reject our application because their dogs were meant to be companion dogs and that's not what we were looking for.
At no time, and in no way did I say that we weren't looking for a family dog. We would like the opportunity to pick a sweet, intelligent dog that fits well with our family. But since we didn't adopt the dog she wanted us to adopt, we don't get to see any other dogs that might be a better fit.
I'm at a loss for words, so is the foster, so are our references. This is the second time we've been burned by a rescue (the first time the foster failed on THE DAY we were picking her up). We believe it's much better to adopt than shop but I don't understand why two people with public service jobs, married over 30 years, with a paid off house, time to train and love to give, can't seem to find a rescue organization that will give us a chance.

I work for an animal hospital and own my home. My coworker saved a corgi at our hospital and while I was playing with him I asked if she wanted me to try and find a home, she responded with "sure".
But then when I got the approval from my SO to take him home, Taylor said she works with this group and told me to contact them because she "promised" the dog to them. I was AUTOMATICALLY denied. No questions asked. No instructions on how to apply. I cannot say how disappointed I am in the rescue and the foster.

I had put in an application for an older lab here in Texas. I received a message about 48 hours later saying they'd like to move forward with an interview. My coordinator was Susie. When I spoke to Susie about the dog I'd applied for, she was very open about various skin and ear issues the dog was facing, and seemed very genuinely concerned that for a first dog, this one might be a little tough from a health perspective. This was an 8 year old lab, so you'd kind of assume that any interest they'd pounce on. I really appreciated this because it seemed like they weren't in a hurry to just get dogs adopted, it was really like a matchmaking service. She asked me about what I was looking for, temperament, color, sex, etc., and based on that made recommendations for others eligible dogs. She sent one that I had initially looked over, because he didn't look like a classic lab, but said based on everything I was wanting he would be a very good fit. She gave me the fosters number, Kate, and shortly thereafter we were able to meet. I was actually visiting my parents for the weekend and Kate was about an hour away. She happily made the drive out to see us with the dog and was very knowledgeable on him and his behaviors. Of course after spending a few hours together, I took the leap and adopted him.

It has been the absolute easiest transition into my home. He's potty trained, he knows a handful of basic commands, he's used to being in a home, and is exactly what I wanted. I appreciate that again, they weren't just trying to shove a dog into your home; they really seemed to care that it was going to be a good fit for me and my needs.

Terrible organization! Adopted a dog through them and quickly had to return it to the foster home due to severe behavioral issues, specifically reactivity. It's understandable that a dog moving to a new home will act out and behave abnormally due to sudden stress and change in environment. However, aggressive behavior, specifically growling and lunging trying to attack other dogs and other people, is not something that is just "the dog acclimating". The rescue's description lied about the dog's temperament, saying that it would only bark at other dogs on walks as a dominance thing, but never lunged, never growled. Also mentioned nothing about her behavior around strangers at all, made it seem like she was fine. Last straw for us is when the dog tried to attack a child. Luckily the foster took the dog back, but the rescue was incredibly rude and condescending about it. Claiming "oh I guess you just aren't willing to let the dog acclimate". Excuse me? What part of the dog tried attacking a kid and other dogs and your description lied about it did you not understand? Huge liability to have kept that dog. No response now about paperwork to sign after returning the dog, no mention of a refund. I don't expect one tbh, it was a high price to begin with, and I'm surprised to see some reviewers have paid $500 for a rescue dog. If you're paying $500+ you aren't rescuing, you're buying. At that point you might as well buy from a breeder. For me, this has tainted my whole experience with rescues, don't think I'll ever adopt from a rescue or shelter again. Responsible and reputable breeders will provide better guarantees and offer a better dog in the long run.

I have adopted several dogs and volunteered for this rescue for many years. These people are so dedicated and incredible. The work is hard and the thanks are little. I am so blessed to be a part of this great mission. They give 110% of themselves to make sure each dog has the best chance at a happy home. It is tireless and most of the volunteers that I have met are so kind and have a true passion and art in rescuing these pups before the inevitable. Lucky Lab has rescued, vetted, rehomed Over 12,000 dogs in the past 11 years. Not too shabby. They take major medical cases to labs who have been displaced for what ever reasons. Selfless selfless work and truly selfless volunteers! Thanks for allowing me to be such a small part of this truly wonderful organization.

I inquired about a couple of dogs here to aid with my anxiety during the Covid-19 outbreak. The dogs were listed on Facebook and Pet Finder.com so I decided to submit an application form on their website, just to receive an email back discriminating me from the adoption process because I rent and do not own a home. I have never experienced anything like this in my life, and have owned several dogs throughout my 29 years here. I understand every rescue has their own "criteria" to finding their dogs the best home, but to sit here and tell me that I can't take care of a dog because I rent and do not have a "permanent" residence? This was so beyond disappointing, that it has caused me to become even more anxious that I will not be able to properly adopt a dog for my ESA. They were pretty quick to respond through email but not very sympathetic if you don't fit their strict criteria for adopting. Look elsewhere if you are not restricted to Labrador Retrievers OR if you currently rent, because they will just tell you that you do not qualify.

Lucky Lab is amazing. I read some of the negative reviews and they don’t add up! We’ve adopted several through Lucky Lab and everyone of them has been wonderful! And the volunteers are great and work hard . I would bet that these negative reviewers have no clue about rescue and what it takes to make a difference. Anyway . We love LLR! One of the dogs we adopted had a 4000$ Heart surgery prior to us adopting. They spend so much time and energy making sure that these dogs are well cared for and loved. And adopted into loving homes . YOU ROCK LUCKY LAB.

I would give 0 stars if that was possible.
I recently adopted a young dog from Lucky Lab Rescue. First of all, the process was extremely unorganized, but I was willing to look beyond that. When we went to pick up our dog that was supposed to be in a foster home, we found her in a kennel with 50+ dogs. They said she was crate trained and good with cats, but I don't know how that is possible without having contact with cats or being out of the kennel for more than a short period of time. We brought her home anyway. This dog was not crate trained at all! This dog also wasn't close to being house trained and she was over a year old. The last straw was about 2 weeks after we brought her home, when she was in heat. I was very confused when a dog that they told us was spayed was in heat. We took the dog to the vet, where they told us she wasn't spayed and she wasn't provided with any heartworm medicine either (which the rescue told us). She also had an ear infection and a chunk taken out of her ear, which would not heal. I quickly informed the rescue that the dog wasn’t spayed and they replied with “this isn't the first time a dog was not spayed at their vet clinic and it tends to happen sometimes”...My mind was blown. The rescue was willing to pay for her to be spayed but they requested we do it at a low-cost clinic. I scheduled the appointment with my vet. We took her in to get spayed and quickly received a call that the dog had Giardiasis (beaver fever) and they could not perform the surgery at this time. For those of you that don't know, Beaver Fever is an intestinal disease from drinking water that contains giardia, a single-celled parasite that is transmitted through the feces of infected animals. We assume this is from the lack of cleanliness of the kennel that our dog was in. Now, we have to wait possibly 3 months before we can get her fixed. Everything that we were told from this rescue seems to be a lie. They do not care for their pets as a "foster rescue" should. I feel bad for all the dogs that are living in these conditions and I also feel bad for anyone that rescues a dog from this facility because I guarantee they are not getting what they are promised. I do not recommend anyone rescues a dog from this facility and I hope that the authority steps in to observe this facility and closes it down.

One of the most unorganized, unprofessional rescues I have ever volunteered for. I would never recommend fostering or adopting through them. They are unresponsive unless you tell them you are taking legal action. Throughout the duration of their dogs stay at my house, which was months long as no effort was put in to find this dog a permanent home, not once did I get a text or email asking about the well being of the dog. The only time I was reached out to, was if I reached out to them. They did not provide heart worm or flea and tick for this dog. They even gave me a hard time about providing food. Would not recommend.

We adopted a lab mix from Lucky Lab Rescue (LLR) in Nov of 2018, The dog was transferred to us from another home after about a week because of rough play with their pup. We didn’t have another dog, and he was local, so we agreed to meet him after checking with the previous foster parents. Dog seemed ok at the time and we moved forward with the adoption (we paid a $500 fee).

Shortly after bringing the dog home, we started to have difficulty with him but attributed it to a new location, multiple foster homes, a lot of change in a short period of time etc..The dog clearly had behavioral issues and would not let other people into the house. As a result, we could not use a walker during the day which was a problem. He was also reactive to other pups when out on a walk. We tried to hire a trainer but the dog wouldn’t let him in the house and acted aggressively (lunging, growling, barking). We took the dog to daycare but eventually he was asked to leave because of socialization issues and he bit several dogs.

We were in constant communication with LL about the dog’s progress and provided them with very detailed updates. They connected us with another trainer who worked with us remotely – she was wonderful but the dog had too many behavioral issues to resolve given our work schedules and living arrangements. He clearly needed a certified behaviorist to address these problems, not a trainer.

About 3 months later, we informed LLR that the dog would have to be rehomed and we needed their assistance. Communication became sporadic, at best, and they eventually refused to respond to our text and emails. They told us the only course of action was to find a behaviorist and work through the issues ourselves. At one point, they asked us to provide a profile and said they would post his information on their website but never did. They refused to help us find another home for this dog and wouldn’t even provide names of other rescues/shelters we could contact for assistance. We were quite distraught as he was destined to be put down if surrendered to a shelter or used as a bait dog.

Luckily, we found a local rescue that agreed to adopt him and work on his behavioral issues. Eventually, he will find a great home and a loving family who will be able to tend to his needs.

Beware of any rescue that won’t take back their pups. See if you can take the dog home for a couple of days to determine if it’s a good fit for your family. Ask for references, and read the contract carefully (Lucky Lab indicates they will take the dog back but reserves the right of first refusal). There are plenty of reputable rescues that provide assistance throughout the adoption process but apparently this type of issue is becoming commonplace in the rescue community. LLR refused to refund our adoption fee.

The folks at Lucky Lab are genuinely trying to help these dogs. However, there is a significant lack of communication. As a foster and volunteer, there were several occasions I or a new adopter needed assistance. Those running the show did not respond to our questions or urgent requests for assistance. We were on my own to figure it out. I can give examples but do not want to reveal my identity for fear of being attacked by some of the members. When problems arise and/or volunteers publicly express their frustration, they are swiftly criticized and ostracized. The rescue could learn a lot from its volunteers if it listened and made adjustments accordingly. Instead, they are defensive and resort to playing the martyr roles. I have since left and focus my efforts with another rescue who values my time and contribution.

Do not give this organization any of your money. They are not committed to the best interest of the dogs or the families- we had to return the dog we adopted from them after 8 days because she growled, lunged and and trued to bite our children. They refused to give us a refund, even after the dog was rehomed less than a week later. They have been fined by Massachusetts on many occasions for illegal transporting dogs to MA adoptees. Shady does not even begin to describe them.

We can not say enough about Lucky lab. The people that work there are so wonderful. They rescue labs of all kinds from kill shelters. They nurse them back to good health, foster them until they find good homes, then transport them across the country to loving families.
We have got two dogs from them. They are kind and Truely care about the well being of the dogs. Our puppy was part of a litter of eight pups that were abandoned at a kill shelter. They were in pretty bad shape. They were full of hook worm and tape worm. Lucky Lab scooped them up and got them healthy and got loving families for all of them. We love our new addition and we will give her a great life. If it was not for Lucky Lab those puppy would not be here today giving joy to so many.
