I've been volunteering with Loving Thunder for about 3 years now and this is a great place to volunteer. The staff and volunteers are fabulous! It was my love of horses that brought me to Loving Thunder, but it's seeing the riders progress each week that keeps me coming back. Even after moving an hour and a half away, I still look forward to volunteering each weekend. Loving Thunder makes a tremendous difference in the community and I'm proud to be a part of it's program!
When looking for a place to complete my school community service project, I found Loving Thunder and I instantly fell in love with their mission and their service to the community. This love was so great that I began volunteering before my school project even began. I have learned so much about working with people who have different ranges of disabilities to learning new ways to care for horses (since really there is more way to do one thing!). Twuana the founder of Loving Thunder is overall a wonderful person, she does so much and a lot of times it is underestimated. But without her and Mike, there would be no Loving Thunder or any program that compares to the quality of care they provide to their riders, horses, and volunteers. Loving Thunder has taught me so much about Therapeutic Riding, and I have learned so much about myself in my time volunteering with the organization. I can't wait to see what the future holds for them, and I hope that one day I will be able to serve back to the community as they do. If you are planning on volunteering here, DO NOT hesitate, it'll be the best thing you could have ever done and you will not regret a single moment of it.
Loving Thunder is the best secret in the region. We're the only PATH Premiere accredited Therapeutic Riding facility in New Mexico. The instructors & staff are kind, patient & driven to help an under served population. My motivation to get up in the morning is to see the smiles on the riders' faces. To watch a rider who was almost non-verbal a few months ago, grow in confidence to where she is carrying on conversations now is incredibly rewarding. I have learned much from watching the horses work their magic. I am just a fortunate witness to the miracles that Loving Thunder allows to unfold. It's the most rewarding & enriching experience of my life.
I've been a volunteer (side-walker / horse leader) with Loving Thunder for almost a year. This program does wonders for individuals with mental, physical, and emotional disabilities. I've seen riders start out with fear and low self-confidence, but improve week after week during the 6 week sessions of horse therapy. It's such a wonderful sight to see! I personally have fun helping, learning, and being able to volunteer my time to such a great organization. Plus, I also get my "horse therapy" while volunteering as well.
This has been a great group to volunteer with. The people are wonderful. It's a clean, well kept facility. Just an overall great environment.
My daughter has been learning how to ride a horse at Loving Thunder Therapeutic Riding for several years. Although she is autistic and very delayed she has blossomed over the past years. The wonderful volunteers help her to do all the activities of grooming and getting the horses ready to ride. She is improving her fine motor skills and building essential muscles every day. Don't get me wrong, they don't do it for her, they make her do the work, but help by doing the things she is not able to accomplish. She is now learning how to turn her horse thru the patterns, stopping and backing up. The horses are so patient and calmly stand while she finishes her duties. She will probably never be able to ride with out the assistance of someone, but the joy on her face when she rides will forever be etched in my brain. Thank you Loving Thunder for making my daughter feel like a rodeo queen each time she rides.
