Mission: Our Movement: The Urban League movement was founded in 1910. The National Urban League, headquartered in New York City, spearheads our nonrofit, nonpartisan, community based movement. The heart of the Urban League movement is our professionally staffed Urban League affiliates in over 100 cities in 34 states and the District of Columbia. Our Mission: The mission of the Urban League movement is to enable African Americans to secure economic self-reliance, parity and power and civil rights. Our Methods: The Urban League movement carries out its mission at the local, state and natonal levels through direct services, advocacy, research, policy analysis, collaboration and communications.

Programs: Workforce development:the los angeles urban league (laul) was founded in 1921 to advocate for equal employment for african americans and other minorities. Since its inception, laul has provided employment related services for those most in need. For decades the foundation of laul's workforce development programs has been the federal workforce investment act. Laul, with approximately 80 workforce development professionals, operates 3 worksource centers focused on adult employment and one onesource center focused on youth employment. Each year laul facilitates over 100,000 customer visits from individuals seeking employment and is directly responsible for placement of nearly 1,000 job seekers in full-time employment. Laul provides employment services to residents of south los angeles from all walk of life including professionals with advanced degrees, residents with no work history, and those with barriers to employment. Laul's business and career worksource centers are a community resource for employment services that match job seekers with employment. The centers offer easy access to a multitude of job related services and skill development activities for individuals looking for employment. Job seekers receive assistance in finding employment, exploring careers, and upgrading their skills through education and training. Customers have total access to the world of interactive online searching, labor market information, job descriptions, current employment listings, and educational training opportunities. Worksource centers provide tools for job searches including access to computers, professional software, fax machines and telephones, labor market research, professional development workshops, case management services, job fairs, recruitments, referral to training and educational opportunities to build employable skills, resume development assistance and much more. These services are provided to job seekers free of charge. Additionally, laul provides unique services to employers. The league provides customized recruitment, candidate screening and job matching for interested employers. It is common for employers to hold recruitments for employees in conjunction with laul worksource centers. As a result our workforce development services, matching qualified candidates with enterprising employers, laul plays a major role in maintaining the health of the greater los angeles economy.

Los angeles urban league strives to provide children with learning experiences that focus on all their developmental domains, including social and emotional development. Los angeles urban league operated its three facilities 204 days during fiscal year end june 30, 2014, providing 14,022 days of enrollment to certified families needing child care and development.
