LIRRG rescued a dumped pregnant rabbit from the busy streets. She gave birth a week later to 9 healthy bunnies. They would not have survived without the rescue group’s volunteers and their generous supporters.
I adopted the mom and she now happily lives in the Swiss Alps with her husbun. Most of her children have already found their forever home. This rescue deserves all the support it can get. Thank you LIRRG, I will continue to support you.

Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group cares deeply about the animals they work with and is a valuable resource for rabbits not just in Long Island, but in the greater area. Few other organizations exist that care about these animals, and given the fact that there are so many dumped in Long Island, and that they need specialized care many general animal rescues aren't able to provide, LIRRG fills a valuable gap. However, my experience with them is primarily as someone who has benefited from their adoptable rabbits. My family has adopted two rabbits from them and I doubt there is any other organization that cares for the people who adopt from them as much. After we adopted, LIRRG was still in contact with anything we needed, including helping with bonded rabbits, advice on which vets to visit, and medical assistance when one of our rabbits had a chronic foot condition.

Long Island Rabbit rescue is truly a one of a kind rescue dedicated to saving bunnies. A genuine group of people that are indeed committed, caring and passionate about the most misunderstood beings that rabbits are yet so gentle and sweet. I am happy to be a part of this family because of what they stand for. They are truly making a huge difference in the welfare of rabbits and saving them. They continue to spread awareness on the proper care for rabbits as well as placing them in loving homes. In a world where there are not many bunny rescues as there are cat & dog rescues , LIRRG stands on this issue and makes a difference. As we all are bunny lovers and bun parents in this group it is indeed a wonderful rescue but also a family. Proud to have adopted my fur baby from here and I must add they are truly bunny heroes.

Like so many rabbit owners, I unfortunately became a rabbit owner without having the necessary education in taking care of these loving, fragile animals. I learned very quickly what was needed for my first rabbit through my vet's office, who works with the LIRRG. Once my rabbit was neutered, LIRRG helped me with speed dating to help him find a friend to bond with. They not only facilitated their meeting, but also helped me through the bonding process.

Rabbits are frequently misunderstood and neglected animals and the LIRRG is doing their best possible job to inform the public about the responsibilities and benefits of owning a rabbit. In particular, I am in awe of their sanctuary program and their mega love for megacolon bunnies program which provides safe environments and medical funding for rabbits with special needs.

Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group is an amazing nonprofit that helps save the lives of so many abandoned and neglected rabbits every year. Not only does LIRRG rescue rabbits, they provide needed medical attention, vet visits, vaccines, and spay/neuter. I have been involved with LIRRG for 5 years, and on July 7th it will be my sweet Christian’s 5th Gotcha (Adoption) Day. He has brought so much joy, love and laughter to our family. If you live on Long Island and are inserted in adopting or fostering a rabbit, please contact Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group. It is a truly rewarding experience, and all of the volunteers are informative and awesome!

I’ve adopted two rabbits from LIRRG over the years and they do such great work. They do so much between assembling teams to catch and rescue abandoned rabbits to educating the community about proper rabbit care. I recently found myself in a position where I caught an abandoned rabbit on the streets and LIRRG was so helpful in ensuring the rabbit received all necessary vet treatment and that she will go to a loving home. LIRRG is doing fantastic work and deserves all the recognition. To the volunteers and members of the Long Island Rabbit Rescue, thank you to all that you do!

When I lost my bunny Sheila, I knew I wanted to find a way to help other rabbits in need. The LIRRG met with me, visited my home and helped me meet some potential fosters. I fell in love with a beautiful blue eyed girl, fostered (and failed) and 6 years later I’m so glad to have her. The LIRRG not only helps find you the best match, but stays in touch- celebrating milestones, lives and offering support and resources all these years later. They are truly a wonderful organization!

This is an organization that truly cares about the rabbits they adopt out. The adoption process helps you be ready to provide the safest environment for a rabbit. They also send a questionnaire and pair you with the rabbits that best fit what you are looking for in a pet. We were matched with two rabbits and we adopted Zander who has been the perfect addition to our family. The organization is also always there for questions about rabbit care, and vet and boarding recommendations.

We will be forever grateful to the Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group. After researching thoroughly we knew we were ready for a pet….specifically a bunny. Once we contacted the rescue they worked tirelessly to educate us further along with finding us our perfect bun….Lafayette. He came to us perfectly healthy, groomed, and you can tell was handled. This isn’t always the case with rescued pets. I’ve had various people answer my questions along this journey that never made me feel silly about a single one. The Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group is a family and it is all in thanks to social media and networking orchestrated by the founders. They are selfless and get everyone involved in any capacity to help. You don’t need to be a bunny expert to help, you just have to care. I’m in awe of the organization, execution, and message they have. They inspired a school wide event at my school (I’m a teacher) and set an example that every rescue should strive to be…inclusive, genuine, and candid. Lafayette is now a therapy bunny I take to school once in awhile for the day and has proven to be a calming source to our son with autism and a best friend to our daughter.

We found LIRRG online while searching for a bunny friend for our current bunny. The process for adopting a bunny from
Them is necessarily lengthy. They were rigorous in ensuring that the bunnies they foster will find safe, knowledgeable forever homes. First, We were given a phone interview. Then a home visit to ensure that our home was safe and properly set up for bunny bonding between our current bun and our new adoptee. LIRGG introduced us and our bunny to several bunnies before finding the right fit. When we went home with our new bunny we were given a website to ask any questions as well as several members who continue to reach out and see how our babies are doing. They linked us up with a rabbit savy vet as well. We couldn’t be happier with the experience.

I had been a bunny mom to my sweet bunny friend for 9 years when I lost her in 2001. She broke my heart and it took me many years and motherhood to be ready to bring a new animal into my home. I had done quite a bit of research before deciding we wanted to adopt a rescue, and I found LIRRG's website, and started the adoption process. The team at LIRRG was wonderful -the process they have in place ensures that both adopters and the rabbits have a loving, safe experience from start to finish and the rabbits find the right "forever home". Our entire household was interviewed, then our home and rabbit space was reviewed by the team, and they confirmed that we had sufficient supplies to care for the rabbit we adopted. Then we had the opportunity to meet three sweet bunnies, who were all neutered/spayed and litter trained. We ended up with our sweet Ru, who has been with us for just over two months. We can't imagine our home without her! We enjoyed the process so much, that we're considering adopting a friend for Ru!

As a Long Island native, I was previously familiar with the Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group as a result of programs they held at the Locust Valley Library years back. However, I never gave the organization much thought until I found myself an adopter of a young bunny whose mother had been rescued a few months earlier by a person in my town. This adoption had a profound change on me and my family.

Having become totally "pair bonded" with the baby rabbit we took in but then suddenly loosing our precious baby to gastric stasis after only 14 months, I have become extremely sensitive to the welfare of rabbits, not to mention extremely heartbroken. I decided to honor the life of my sweet Smudge by donating what I can to this wonderful organization. I hope to eventually find time to volunteer as well.

It's incomprehensible to me that people could abandon, abuse, or neglect such loving, loyal, and emotionally intelligent creatures, but I suppose there are a lot of human behaviors I simply don't understand. But this is also precisely why an organization like the Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group is so essential. Please consider donating and volunteering with them.

When I rescued my rabbit (with no experience of caring for a rabbit at all), this group, when I contacted them jumped right in to help by giving me supplies, to check the rabbit and all the info I need to keep her safe. The most dedicated group of humans I’ve ever known. These volunteers will drop everything on a moments notice to help a rabbit in need, wether it’s an owner with a sick rabbit or a rabbit that is in danger, or to drop off medications or supplies to a rabbit in need . This group has helped to save lives of thousands of rabbits and give them a chance at a loving, safe, indoor forever home and brought love to so many families. This group also gives rabbits with special needs a chance at a good life by offering support to adopters who will take a chance on them as well. Without this group, so many rabbits would have lost their lives horrifically.

I adopted my rabbit Cookie from LIRRG and it was the best decision I’ve ever made! LIRRG has a careful screening process to make sure you’re ready to take care of a bunny, and they want to make sure the bunny you adopt is right for you! LIRRG’s Facebook group is an active and close community that always has people on hand to answer questions, give advice, and of course share lots of pictures of their furballs. Volunteers within the group help foster rabbits, take care of your rabbit while you’re away, trim your rabbit’s nails when needed, and a whole lot more. I have also been to a rabbit rescue with LIRRG and the process was organized and very heartfelt. LIRRG is a fun, interactive, and wholesome nonprofit that holds lots of seminars on important topics like rabbit bonding, and even publishes a regular newsletter called THUMP that features cute bunny stories and care advice! Thank you for being such an amazing group, LIRRG!

Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group not only rescues rabbits but provides extensive support and education to the general public and rabbit families. It is this education that will lead to a better future for domestic rabbits in general, as most rabbits requiring rescue are the result of impulse purchases or lack of proper education/information on rabbits and their care.

Part of it was that my room, where my Maisey stayed, felt so empty. After some time processing and grieving, I decided it was best for me to adopt another rabbit in Maisey’s honor. We had already been familiar with LIRRG as they have an amazing community of kind rabbit lovers, so we knew where we wanted to apply! We were contacted by our adoption counselor, Sarah, who was so knowledgeable and friendly. After our application was processed, we got to meet our matches! I am forever thankful to everyone at LIRRG, including my Bennett’s fosters, Karen and Bob, for their incredible work and dedication❤️ Silly little Benny makes us so unbelievably happy

The most amazing, dedicated, passionate, and loyal rabbit rescue group you’ll see! So many volunteers donate so much of their time and energy to help these rabbits get healthy and find their forever homes where they will live the rest of their lives so happy. They do this out of the good of their heart! We wish we could save every rabbit, but nonprofit organizations rely on help from the public and sometimes there just isn’t enough compared to the amount of rabbits that need help. We appreciate any and all help you can give us to help the rabbits.

I purchased my 1st bunny 7months ago without knowing how to care for her. I received conflicting information on web sites. I was extremely grateful to pair up with this organization and have learned so much. You all provide much needed support and education.

I have been working with LIRR to adopt a rabbit and have been so impressed by the all of the volunteers that I have encountered. Every volunteer has been friendly, helpful and a wealth of information on rabbit care. They answered every question and provided information that I wasn't even aware I needed. If you are looking to adopt a rabbit, this is the rescue to call!

When I first met my awesome bun-daughter Priscilla I had absolutely no intention of becoming attached to any animals - buried too many pets growing up. However, she grew on me quickly and I began to understand why my now wife loved bunnies so much. I’ve learned a ton about rabbits through her and Long Island Rabbit Rescue (I didn’t even know there was a difference between a wild rabbits and domestic rabbits!). One of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had came through being involved with Long Island Rabbit Rescue. This past Mother’s Day my wife and I went out on a rescue. We spotted the bun and watched from a distance until more of the Long Island Rabbit Rescue team showed up. After tracking the bun through the woods and accumulating many bumps and bruises we finally managed to save the bun! It was awesome! The people I met that day are incredible. They took time out of their days (on Mother’s Day) to rescue this poor bun who had been left out on the side of the road. Really special people are involved with Long Island Rabbit Rescue and I’m incredibly grateful for all that they do!

Long Island Rabbit Rescue helped us find the perfect partner for our rabbit. Bugz has been so happy since he got a partner. Everyone at Long Island Rabbit Rescue was helpful and kind and even after we adopted our bunny, we have access to resources, information and support. This is a great community to be a part of.

I have adopted two rabbits from LIRRG and they are amazing! The volunteers are extremely friendly and helpful. They provide a great quality of life for these rescue bunnies while they wait for their forever homes. The group also ensure that adopters/members of the community are educated on proper rabbit care which is very important. Thank you LIRRG for all that you do! I adopted my Ellie almost a year ago, and the support I received before, during, and after has been amazing! They have tons of really useful information on their website and all the volunteers are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and dedicated. LIRRG really becomes your "bunny family" and I know if I need help or if I have questions that Google just can't answer, I'll find an answer with them. I'm forever grateful for them bringing my sweet girl into my life!

We adopted our first rabbit, Lydia in 2012 and LIRRG made that possible. They took us step by step through the process and educated us on how to properly care for our new family member. We had here for 8 years and after she passed they helped us bring a new member to the family, Mona! LIRRG is a great group who all truly care about rabbits and making sure they find their right homes when it comes time for adoption. My family and I are lucky to have found this group and are honored to be a part of it.

They also provide you with all the resources to learn & continue to have an ongoing relationship with the service through the journey of becoming a loving parent to such a loving animal.
This is a great resource if you are looking to adopt a rabbit.

I became a volunteer for this organization after I rescued my first rabbit from a pet store. He was brought there by someone who no longer wanted him. Among other volunteer tasks, I’ve fostered 2 rabbits who have since been placed into the most loving homes a bun could ask for. I have adopted 2 buns from this organization as well. Volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes to run this organization IN ADDITION to their day jobs. They do this all without pay. They do it when they had a rough day at work. Some may volunteer despite their health and personal struggles. I’ve met the most selfless, dedicated, and knowledgeable people who over the years, have become family. They’ve saved countless lives and day after day continue to right wrongs.

I never expected such a wealth of information and support was so close to home! When we decided to adopt we contacted LIRRG to find out more. We were provided with numerous resources including videos and links to websites and educational material that truly gave us a full image of what adopting a rabbit meant. After exploring it all as a family we met at our home with a LIRRG volunteer. This gave us an opportunity to ask as many questions as we liked, and my children had many. It also provided us with amazing advice on the best location and care in our own home. That was almost two years ago and I have to say we still receive the best resources and opportunities and support we could imagine.

I am a brand new adoptive bunny mommy. I cannot say enough good things about this organization. First and foremost is their unconditional love of these sweet, smart, wonderful animals. Every person I dealt with was kind and informative. I felt that I received really pertinent information to educate myself weeks before my Adoption Day. The education they provided me from correct ways to hold a rabbit to nail clipping and temperature taking were amazing. They helped me find the newest member of my family, and I am so grateful to all the volunteers who helped me; especially my Zachary's foster mom for loving him and caring for him for a full year before I found him. LIRRG is an amazing organization, and deserve only good things.

Long Island Rabbit Rescue volunteers have the biggest hearts out of anyone I have ever known. It is amazing when you realize that this small, strictly volunteer and donation based group operates the way that it does day to day and is able to help the countless amount of rabbits, and rabbit owners on Long Island (and beyond). Through volunteering with them I have formed friendships and bonded with others who share the same compassion and heart for these small and amazing creatures as I do. It is truly the most wonderful group of dedicated and selfless people!

I started volunteering with LIRRG a couple years ago because of how much I enjoy working and volunteering with animals. I never would have imagined that I would gain such invaluable experience and friendships from volunteering here. Since lirrg is all-volunteer organization, it is impossible not to be inspired by the selflessness and compassion of the volunteers around me, who donate their time, space, and supplies to help these rabbits, many of whom have come from tragic situations. LIRRG is truly an amazing and life-changing group.

This rescue is one of only a couple of rabbit rescues for all of Long Island, stretching from Queens all the way to the end of Suffolk County. Despite limited resources the entirely volunteer and donation-based group does what they can to make life better for domestic rabbits on the island. They rescue abandoned rabbits, give them vet care, and care for them in foster homes until they can be adopted. They also assist owners with care and have created a network of volunteers at-the-ready to assist with whatever help is needed.

I personally have learned so much about rabbits and rescuing animals in general. I’m forever grateful to them for creating a community of full of knowledge, experience, and connections. I have adopted 3 rabbits from them, participated in rescues, transports, vet visits, adoptions, education fairs and more. The volunteers also provide amazing moral support for nearly every rabbit situation you could think of. I’d have never made it through bonding my latest pair without them. Rabbits and rabbit owners are so fortunate to have the LIRRG operating in their neighborhoods.

I have nothing but good things to say about this amazing group.

I adopted Captain 3 years ago. He had some behavioral issues when he was first rescued, and this rescue did not give up on him. Everyone there tried their absolute best to prove to him that not all humans are bad. One of the volunteers, Lisa, even took him into her home to show him that he has nothing to be afraid of anymore. He went from attacking/biting anything and anyone who tried getting close to him, to blossoming into one of the most loving and affectionate bunnies. The people at the rescue helped mold Captain into the cuddle bun he is today, who loves giving and receiving kisses. Because of them, I would have never found my furry soulmate, and Captain would have never known a life full of unconditional love and comfort.

In addition, the volunteers of the rabbit rescue have inspired me to stand up and be a voice for bunnies everywhere. Their passion and commitment is truly hard to find in this world.

My bun came from here. I also volunteer with them. They are amazing group of people. Its heartbreaking how many are just tossed away and this group tries their best to save them. LIRRG is foster home based and donations go a long way in medical bills for these babies. They do education events and fundraisers. 100% goes towards the care of the buns. Thank you for saving my pain in the ass that I love so much. He's my spoiled butt and these rescues would love a furever home as well.

Long Island Rabbit Rescue Group is an amazing, tight-knit organization that does all it can for rabbits and provides endless support for bunny parents. I adopted two wonderful bunnies from LIRRG’s collaboration with a local shelter (they did not have to help the shelter, but they did it anyway because they care about rabbits so much). LIRRG also has a Facebook group, where bunny parents can ask questions, receive emotional support, be educated, and share cute pictures and videos of their rabbits. People involved in LIRRG go above and beyond to help each other. When one of my rabbits was sick, a LIRRG volunteer drove my rabbit and me an hour each way to get to the vet, because I couldn’t drive and none of my friends and family were able to help me. This sort of thing happens regularly. Need help trimming a difficult bunny’s nails? Someone will come out to help you. Your bunny is suddenly sick, you don’t have emergency meds, and the vet is closed? Someone will provide you with medication to get your bunny through the night. These people will do anything to help a rabbit in need. LIRRG isn’t just there for you during the adoption process. They are there for you for the duration of your rabbit’s life. It is a very special organization, and they deserve to be recognized for their work.

As first a client served and now a volunteer, LIRRG has gifted me the love of my life, my fur-child, and so much more. Beyond my adopted soul-bunny, LIRRG gave me the education, training and support to ensure my rabbit has the healthiest and most joyous life. This rabbit rescue consistently provides me with opportunities to grow as a volunteer, educator and advocate. My involvement with LIRRG connects me with selfless and authentic people who I am fortunate to call true friends.

I have been volunteering with LIRRG for about two years now. I first reached out to volunteer with LIRRG because I wanted to do something positive with my free time. I have always wanted to be able to do something to help animals, so volunteering for a rescue only made sense. Watching the bunnies that come from neglected and abandoned situations, turn into trusting and happy rabbits in our care melts my heart. As a bonus, volunteering has made me a better bun mom. There is so much to learn when it comes to rabbits and the hands-on experience is invaluable to me. What makes me love LIRRG so much is the beautiful community of caring people that are ready to jump in when others need help. Whether it's rescuing a rabbit off the street that was abandoned by their previous family, giving general care advice, or helping out a sick rabbit, everyone involved is kind and helpful.

I have been volunteering with long island rabbit rescue for over a year and a half now. I was also a foster mom. This rescue has done such incredible work and given so much dedication to rabbits that have been neglected, mistreated and abandoned. I am so proud and humbled to be apart of this incredible rescue team.

This rescue came to my aid when I was told about an abandoned rabbit and I took her in. After I found her a home I became a volunteer.
Since then I have been on numerous rescues of abandoned rabbits, assisted with rabbits that have either been dumped or brought to the shelter by SPCA, assisted with emergencies such as giving medicine and taking temperatures. I have dealt with extremely sad cases of abandoned rabbits that break my heart and in the end all they want is love. I have met such amazing people and proud to be part of this rescue. It inspires me that there are people who go above and beyond to help these incredible creatures.
I also was a foster mom and I love that bun. Cassie had the longest nails I have ever seen. She was abandoned when her home owners moved and she hopped across the street and was found. The finder reached out to us and that was when the beautiful soft and sweet bunny I named Cassie became my foster. She became sick and I rushed her to the vet two times in one week. It tore my heart when it was medically advised to send her across the rainbow bridge. The rescue was a huge support and was there for me in this sad time. We support each other in the good and the bad times.
