I haver been trying and trying to get a hold of you as I would like to adopt Teepee, the Quaker Parrot. She would be perfect for me as I am looking for a female adult Quaker.
Strangeley you are not taking applications , but you are still listed on Pet Finder. I don't understand this as it is not correct information and very misleading.
I would appreciate it if someone can contact me.
Excellent organization with educational mission as well as the goal of establishing a shelter for displaced parrots on Long Island. It's a great way for pet bird owners to learn about properly caring for their parrots--networking, socializing, participating in outreach events and coming to monthly meetings!
I've been a member for a number of years and now proud to say a board member. The focus of the Long Island Parrot Society is to educate folks on the care of companion parrots through our meetings, presenters, outreaches, Parrot University, our newsletter, website and Facebook page. We also help those bird owners in need (especially during an emergency such as Super Storm Sandy) with providing guidance and/or resources. In a situation such as Sandy, we were able to foster (through the kindness of our members) those birds who were displaced. Our goal is to open a shelter/education center on Long Island (the first for parrots). We are working diligently towards that goal. We also affiliate ourselves with other parrot organizations/clubs (ie: The AFA--American Federation of Aviculture) to better network in helping the parrots and their owners. Bottom line, we are a group of committed, passionate people who love parrots and want to make a difference in their lives.
Hello, while I have not been a member in a while, ONLY because of how FAR I live from their meetings...I am still a RAVING FAN of the Long Island Parrot Society.
There have been many times I was in a jam with my pet Birds and LIPS Members always come through for you...member or not, because their passion is for better birdkeeping.
Simply put, LIPS...Long Island Parrot Society is a WONDERFUL WONDERFUL group of caring and very hard working people!
I'm a Member of Long Island Parrot Society , what a wonderful group of People . They have taught me so much about my birds . We do so much to try and educate people about being a responsible Bird Owners. Come to a meeting and see for yourself .
The Long Island Parrot Society is comprised of sincere and dedicated people who have a strong passion for not only their own parrots but all parrots in general. They do a wonderful job in educating the public with their program "Parrot University"and they do a fantastic job with fostering homeless parrots and placing them in loving homes.
I believe in the Long Island Parrot Society and have been a member for many years, in fact, I have now become a lifetime member.
I have repeatedly come to this group for advice and education related to parrots and their care and well being. The LIPS people are compassionate, caring, knowledgeable, and always willing to help anyone who has a question or parrot-related need. They work very hard to make what they have to offer available by hosting monthly meetings where both society members and non-members are welcome, by maintaining a web site and a Facebook page where all questions and concerns may be addressed, by mailing out a monthly newsletter as well as e-mail updates, and by hosting the annual Long Island Parrot Expo, which is a major undertaking and which draws attendees from all over the country.
