I have been volunteering for 4-5 years and have seen this organization grow and continue to have a meaningful impact the lives of the homeless in Pittsburgh. My personal experiences and the commitment and passion of the staff led me to begin a reoccurring donation to the ministry. The Ministry does not simply address physical needs - rather they seek to love the homeless just as they are and build relationships that show them the transformative power of Christ. One of the most memorable volunteer days that I attended was when I helped one of the Project L.I.F.E participants move into permanent housing - Evidence that this holistic approach truly helps transform lives.
I have volunteered with Living Ministry for a little more than a year now, and it has been one of the most fulfilling, life-changing experiences I have ever had the opportunity to do. I spend most of my volunteer time serving in shelters alongside Living Ministry staff, where we work together to orchestrate Bible studies or book clubs for the people who join us at the shelters. I am blessed to see first-hand how these Bible studies help the people were serving, and I can see how much having our friendship in their lives is helping them gain the confidence and skills they need. My favorite thing about Living Ministry is that they go beyond simply meeting the needs of the homeless. Instead, they focus on meeting their basic human need of friendship and companionship, which in my opinion changes lives far more than a meal. Through the weekly shelter visits, I have been able to grow so close to some of the people I have met in the shelters, and I'm thrilled to say that I have seen this companionship strengthening not only their lives, but also my own. Living Ministry is a fantastic organization that truly lives out their purpose of showing God's love to the people of Pittsburgh.
Review from Guidestar
I started volunteering at the ministry in 2009. Back in the days, I helped at job fairs for homeless, ALIVE (the clothing give away), and attended Bible study at the shelters.
LIVING Ministry isn't the most organized and large NPO I'v been volunteering at. But it is honest, everything is transparent, and everyone in the ministry shares the same vision: that is serving the homeless to glorify our Lord Jesus. I enjoyed spending time with the ministers at the ministry and homeless at the shelters. They taught me how to carry my candle into the darkness, to serve those who are frustrated and hopeless.
I joined the ministry as a full time employee in 2010. I don’t know if I am allowed to write this review, but I treasured the time when I was a ministry volunteer.
