Fantastic staff and facility! They work with all kinds of animals and provide great care, including vet care, boarding, grooming, and day care. A vital service for the surrounding area.
LTBHS is a fantastic agency! Not only do they help animals in the community, but they often seek out animals from lower income areas, shelters with higher euthanasia rates, or animals that may require more behavior or medical care than the average shelter can manage. I love LTBHS!
I adopted my first dog ever from Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. The building is clean and approachable, you're immediately met with friendly and knowledgeable staff. I was able to meet + greet with the dogs one-on-one, which was incredibly helpful. They gave me a lot of resources and a care schedule, which was great as a first time dog owner. They set me up for success. I loved every moment I had with my precious dog. He unfortunately passed away from cancer just under 2 years after I adopted him. He was receiving care at their vet clinic next door, for which I can give the same glowing reviews. They were very kind with me and shared condolences. I look forward to adopting from them again as soon as I'm ready.
Espn (former Marla) my other dog Bella choose Espn. It was the best choice for our family. Espn favorite hobby is to run around with her sisters. The past 5 years have been amazing with her. The help of LTBHS was amazing we really appreciate it. Thank you!
We had been without a dog for over two years and my son decided enough was enough and brought me to LTBHS on Mother's Day weekend. The staff listened intently to my story and interviewed me carefully so that they would know exactly what I wanted and needed in a dog. Turns out they had just the girl for me. We adopted Millie who had just weaned a litter of puppies. The puppies were darling, but she was the one I wanted. Millie was the best dog in the world - literally. She loved us more than we deserved and we loved her to a fault. A year later, my son had graduated from college and we were looking for a cat. We went to the LTBHS again and there was the sweetest brown dog staying there. His story was that he had been adopted about a year ago and was recently returned because the family had found that they just didn't have time for him. We were drawn to him and started a conversation. The staff was able to trace that he was one of Millie's puppies!. Needless to say, he came home with us that day. We named him Mo. The Millie and Mo reunion was such a happy occasion. In time, my son married and moved away with Mo, but the dogs saw each other often and were always bonded. It was amazing to see and I will be forever grateful to LTBHS for having the records to track their relationship and helping us find the perfect dog friends.
Millie broke our hearts when she passed. She deserved to live longer but we could not cure her cancer. Maybe too soon we went back to LTBHS for another dog. My husband was showing signs of early onset Alzheimer's and the staff was very careful to help us choose just the right dog for both of us. Charlie was a wonderful companion and totally devoted and loyal to my husband. My husband became an almost obsessive walker dye to his illness and Charlie was with him every step of the way until he passed, sooner than we had expected, from his disease. Charlie was a strong dog and more than I could manage on a leash walk. Plus I work long hours. My son came through once again and took Charlie to his house. They now live in North Carolina (Charlie is a coonhound and originally came from Tennessee) where Charlie fits in with the pack that still includes Mo, older now, but so well loved and happy. I am dogless again, but plan to go back to LTBHS in a few weeks. I trust them to help me find the perfect companion to take me through my "golden" years.
I can't say enough about how respected and valuable the LTBHS is to our area. The work they do not only saves animal lives, but peoples' lives as well. They are dearly loved in our region.
Argos (formerly Rufus) came up from Austin Texas. He was 3-4 years old and extremely timid. He was literally afraid of his shadow. When he was brought to me at the center he was so scared. I was told that he was a special case and that you would give me four weeks to see if we worked well together. Throughout my life I have adopted five dogs and they have all been cherished family members. To build his confidence I renamed him 'ARGOS', the beloved, most brave dog of Odysseus. In Greek mythology Argos was faithful and renowned for his strength and speed.
Argos is steadily growing into the 'doganality' of his namesake.
He loves my son and I. Argos loves his life in Frankfort MI.
I adopted two kittens from Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, a couple years ago, they are wonderful companions, I am so happy I went to LTBHS to adopt them, everyone at LTBHS are so friendly.
I spent half a day at LTBHS trying to decide on a dog. The staff was very helpful. I had two cats at home and was very nervous about introducing a dog. I chose Johnny Cash. He had come from Texas and was a found with a broken tail that had to be amputated. I never thought he would be the dog that came home with me that day. Four years later he has been the most loyal gentle dog. Thank you.
We had a wonderful experience adopting our now three year old dog. Everyone was so helpful and kind and we couldn’t imagine our life without our pup!
My husband and I went to LTBHS with the intention of adopting a dog. My husband had been looking at the website and had a particular dog in mind before we got there. We mentioned to staff that we had a cat at home and they immediately let us know that the dog we were looking at would not be good to have with a cat. They helped us choose another dog (who I had secretly already been looking at on the website) and we took Alex home that same day. He is the sweetest and most loving dog. He is friendly and loves our cat (although they like to chase each other at times). I couldn't be happier with a dog. I also couldn't be happier with the staff. They were kind enough to take the time to help us choose the right dog for our home. 10/10 would definitely adopt from LTBHS again.
Our 2 St.Bernards spend alot of time at Daycare. They absolutely love it and the staff is wonderful! I always know the girls will be treated with love!❤
We adopted Luna as a puppy from ltbhs! Best dog we could ever ask for! We use ltbhs for boarding, daycare, grooming, adoptions and also use the vet clinic ! Could not ask for better staff
The LTBHS IS A FABULOUS organization. We adopted our LULU from there about 8 years ago. It was a great experience. We take her to Play Dates all the time and she is always treated like she is one of their own. They have the greatest compassion for all their animals. I try to give as much as I can to this fabulous organization. They never pass up an opportunity to rescue any animals in need and always find ways to get them adopted. Thanks again for our wonderful LULU
We adopted Otis in September, 2019 from Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. We had recently lost our two Chihuahua girls at the ages of 18 and 16years old. Our boxer boy Vinny was in need of a new sibling. I had never rescued a dog before, and I was set on finding another boxer to join our pack. I believe my exact words were, “I didn’t want to recuse a dog and I didn’t want a dog with a tail.” My wonderful girlfriend saw something in Otis that I didn’t immediately see. She saw a dog who needed a loving home with an amazing big brother. She was the original Mom to our chihuahuas and the hole in her heart needed to be filled. Our first interaction with Otis at LTBHS was surprising, heartbreaking and loving all wrapped into a 30minute meet and greet. He was smaller in person than his posted “mug shot.” We were thrilled with his size and could accommodate his listed requirements for a home without cats and men. Otis was very apprehensive to us, but you could see the love and bond he had for his caretakers. The staff at LTBHS made him feel safe and cared for. Otis had two eye surgeries while under the great care of LTBHS, and as a result will be on daily eye drops for the rest of his life. We didn’t see this as a deal breaker, we saw the warrior we were adding to our pack. Our visit ended with Otis being put back in his “safe place” and putting his left paw up on the kennel, as to say thanks for visiting, but I’m in great hands here. That showed me just how much love and care goes into each and every animal that walks though or is dropped off at LTBHS. We knew that Otis was going to be a fantastic dog, he just needed the right fit, I’m so glad we were that family. Otis and Vinny are inseparable and adorable together. Otis makes our home whole again, and every day we are grateful to LTBHS for saving his life. The boys thrive at doggy daycare! The staff on the daycare side loves them like they own them. I can’t think of the better place for our boys to spend their weekdays, then at LTBHS doggy day care with all their four legged and two legged friends. So in the end, we rescued a dog, and that dog has a tail. Otis has rescued our hearts and his wagging grateful tail fills our souls!
Cally, Jules, Vinny & Otis
Razz isn’t technically a rescue although he came from a farm with lots of puppies. He’s almost 12 and has been coming to LTB since before his first birthday.. he get so excited when he realizes where we are going ... he loves the staff they are awesome and he loves to play with his friends . Can’t wait to get back
I love the human staff and all of my doggie playmates at daycare! My sister Josephine was from the LTBHS too! She’s the best!
Compassionate staff, wonderful animals, and clean facility!
Not just an animal shelter but boarding, grooming, doggie day care and a vet clinic too.
The best place in Northern Michigan to adopt your next furry friend :)
We adopted our cat Ellie from LTBHS and every step has been wonderful! They really care and do all they can to support their animals and adopters. The whole Little Traverse Bay staff is amazing!
All parts of the organization are top notch! I utilize their veterinary services and have a quite difficult dog, who is terrified of everything (and makes sure you know it!), they know exactly what to do with him. They are so patient and kind, even when he isn't being. Staff goes above and beyond at grooming and daycare as well, if you are feeling uncomfortable, they make sure to take some candid photos of your little one to put your mind at ease! The shelter staff knows ALL of the animals in their possession, each and every characteristic (even understanding their 'flaws'). They strive to ensure that each animal that is adopted goes into the perfect home, a perfect fit for that specific animal. Each employee throughout the organization is dedicated to the mission and the animals they serve daily!
As a long time volunteer, adopter, former board member, (serving as Secretary and Vice President), and donor, Little Traverse Bay Humane Society is one of best no kill animal shelters in Michigan. The loyal membership and donor base is the strongest it’s ever been. The staff are very compassionate and are very committed in fulfilling the mission. Many wonderful programs are in place to ensure training, health, and very low percentage of returned animals. The cleanliness of the facility, and it’s reputation are well known. I’ve adopted 5 dogs, and I’ll never adopt dogs from anywhere else!❤️
An amazing place with an amazing staff! Animal shelters of this cleanliness are few and far between.
My uncle, my brother, and I have all gotten amazing dogs from LTBHS! They take such good care of them and really help you work through any behavioral adjustments. They want to set up every animal for success.
An incredible group of animal lovers that will go above and beyond what normal people will do to help animals...they are the best
I’ve had three grand kitties and 1 grand pup from LTBHS so far and they are all wonderful. The staff clearly took amazing care of them while they were at the shelter. Thank you LTBHS!
I have adopted one dog and three cats from LTBHS. The staff is one of the most upbeat you’ll ever meet! They love what they do and make your experience adopting a very positive experience. If you have any questions at all after adopting, they are more than happy to answer because they want you and the animal to be set up for success. Thank you LTBHS!
I've adopted 4 of my fur babies from LTBHS and will continue to adopt from them in the future. I am extremely grateful for them in our community. The staff is very dedicated to all of the adopters and animals that come through their doors. Thank you!
I have adopted from Little Traverse Bay Humane Society ever since I moved to the area. They are the best. The staff is friendly and more than willing to help you find the perfect furry companion.
Both of my rescues are from LTBHS and they have been great! The staff goes above & beyond to help out all of their clients in any of the areas they have. We use their boarding, grooming & vet clinic to care for our dogs. Would highly recommend them to all!!
I have adopted 3 dogs and 2 cats over the years from Little Traverse Bay Humane Society. I don’t plan on rescuing from anywhere else.
Great staff ! Adopted my dog & cat from LTBHS . Everyone genuinely committed to giving loving care until adopted out to a loving home .
The first few times I visited LTBHS to adopt 3 pets a few years apart I’ve always been impressed with the staff and professional atmosphere here. Then I became a member, then came to work for them as a veterinarian. It is the best place I’ve ever worked- hands down. They believe fully in their mission statement and aim to help as many pets and pet owners as possible which is so refreshing.
