Mission: The mission of Literacy Volunteers of Southern Connecticut is to provide services at no cost to any individual who wishes to learn the English language or enhance the reading, writing, speaking and listening comprehension skills necessary to lead productive lives in our community.
Target demographics: Immigrants and refugees learn to speak English with free one-on-one tutoring for those who want to improve their speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation and converational skills.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 140 students, taught by 80 volunteer tutors.
Geographic areas served: The greater Milford and Stratford, CT areas
Programs: One-on-one, in-person or virtual tutoring to help adults improve their English in order to find work, obtain professional certifications, reduce the fear and discomfort of learning a new language, and more. Specialized group classes are also offered.
