As a donor, I have attended many fundraisers. I have heard testimontials of adult learners and learned of their success with literacy. I am convinced that their success is due to the personal care and attention that the staff of LVPC has supplied and their loyal tutors. I am proud to be associated with this non-profit that helps adult learners of Pitt County!

I come from a family of nine brothers and sisters and of my nine siblings only three of us have a functional education. The other six of my siblings have graduated high school, but can only read and write on a third grade level. I have wanted to help them improve their reading and writing skills, but living out of state made that very difficult if not impossible. Not being able to help my siblings has haunted me for years. Literacy Volunteers of America-Pitt County has given me the opportunity to do for people here in Pitt County what I can't do for my siblings. I still deeply desire to help my siblings move forward with their reading and writing skills, but I get great satisfaction from being able to help those here in Pitt County improve their skills. I am greatly appreciative of the Literacy Volunteers of America-Pitt County for their services and giving me the opportunity to give back and help improve the lives of the people in the community.

Literacy Volunteers – Pitt County has such a unique way of providing training to community members with different backgrounds so they can serve as volunteer tutors. 100% of instruction is offered to adult learners for free and their identity remains confidential. What a great service to the community!
Hello, I am taking a computer classl second one here, Is fun, informative, and connects all the bits and pieces for peresons such as myself who have a "Swiss cheese" knowledge of computers and social networking sites! What I know about such, I know well, and then there are the holes! For example, I have had Facebook for years and probablhy used it more in the two weeks since we studied it in class than during all that time! Any Literacy Volunteers agency is a valuable service for so many reasons; as they state, literacy skills help with so many life factors; for example, negoitiating the health care maze -more literacy equals less cost for an individual! I have served on two Literacy Boards, and learned so much valuable information. Please support any such agency, wheter is it by referring persons, donating time, money or books. If you are not able to do this, please learn about your local agency - you may be surprised - for example, there are free and very detailed computer skills classes here and very patient teachers. Ibi
I have volunteered for the Literacy Volunteers Adult Computer Classes for two years now. The experience has been quite rewarding. I have had the oppertunity to work with some amazing men and women from various backgrounds and ethnicities. I have helped to teach them various ways to utilize the computer and internet. In return, they have shown me how generosity and patience can make a difference in someone's life. I am honored to say that I am a literacy volunteer!
This has been a great experience. I completed Applications I, and I am now in the Applications II class. Information has been very interesting, and helpful. Tonight I learned how to Skype. Really looking forward to using this program with my out of state family. Great service to the community.

LV-PC is a great non-profit organization. I feel that they are offering a wonderful service free of charge to this community and I've never heard of any other agency doing this. LV-PC serves adult learners in Pitt County. They offer many different opportunities to learn how to read, write, and speak English, how to use computers and how to do basic math. I've learned so much about the tutors and learners since I've been here and the relationships between the two are so personal. LV-PC really cares about their learners well-being and ability to be effective in their families, the community and workplace. Everyone is family here! My time here has been wonderful!
I had the wonderful opportunity to complete my undergraduate internship at Literacy Volunteers-Pitt County. On my very first day I was blown away by the effort and passion of all our volunteers and students. It's wonderful to see members of the community working together and helping one another achieve goals. As an intern, I created the Family Read Program. The goal of this program was to improve literacy skills and enhance communication between children and adults by using children's books. The creation of Family Read provided me with the opportunity to work with three wonderful groups of individuals, one group of individuals from a behavioral health program, one group of women at an alcohol and drug abuse treatment center, and one group of caregivers. These experiences gave me the opportunity to grow as a professional and enhance my skills. I will be forever grateful for the staff, volunteers, and students at Literacy Volunteers-Pitt County. Anyone wanting to better their literacy or computer skills will be welcomed and cared for at Literacy Volunteers-Pitt County. I had a wonderful experience and believe that everyone else will too!
Just over the past year or so, I have watched LIteracy Volunteers of America - Pitt County, increasingly raise public awareness about the crippling effects that adult literacy poses for 14% of adult residents in Pitt County.
I am amazed at how its super small, caring staff has managed to bring the issue of illiteracy to the forefront of social issues in Pitt County, and has garnered the support of both leading business organizations and educational institutions to sponsor and support their noble cause.
Having done this, they have reached a broader constituent pool of potential donors, students, and volunteers - all of which are crucial to running a successful nonprofit organization.
I fully intend on becoming a Pitt County Literacy Volunteer in 2012. In fact, I would be honored. By helping adults in Pitt County improve their education skills we tap into their unused potential by giving them the talents and skills that directly benefit not only their lives at home and at work, but also our own community's economic and social well-being.
I can't wait to become a part of this wonderful organization!
When I came here I met wonderful people. My teacher is a great person. She is wonderful to work with. I learn so much from her. Also I met a great staff. They put me in good hands. If you're reading this come and see us.
I love volunteering at LV-PC. There are so many opportunities to not only help learners with their skills, but also to see their confidence and commitment grow.
What a great experience it has been to tutor and work with a great learner at LVPC. With wonderful resources to work with, and an awesome volunteer coordinator to boot, LVPC has been a wonderful place for me to grow as a teacher and support my learner. "Working" here has been a great and fun opportunity for me!
Literacy Volunteers provides me a way to volunteer and help others with basic life skill needs. This experience has been extremely rewarding, humbling, and a blessing to me. It is easy for me to take for granted the knowledge that I have, however, it is wonderful for me to turn around and enrich others lives with it. I will continue to devote my volunteer time to this wonderful organization. Thanks LV PC!
Volunteering here has been an incredible experience and I really enjoy watching the progress my learner has made.
