Mission: Connecting people of all ages to a world of opportunities through literacy and creative expression. Literacy is not just the ability to read and write. It is the bedrock upon which we build our lives. Today and in the future, our community needs citizens with a range of literacy skills to acquire, create and communicate information. Literacy Connects offers learning opportunities from birth through adulthood – from reading to computer skills, English acquisition and artistic self-expression.

Programs: -Reach Out and Read Southern Arizona: Pediatricians give books to children 0-5 at wellness exams and speak with parents on the importance of reading to children to develop early literacy skills. - Reading Seed: Trains volunteer reading coaches for one-to-one work with children in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade who are struggling with reading. Children get a free book each week to build their own home libraries. - Stories that Soar!: Children in K-6th grade write and feed their own stories to the Magic Box. Every story is read by our team of professional actors and a selection of stories are turned into professional theater productions for the whole school to see. Children are empowered to read and write through their imaginations coming to life on stage. - Adult Basic Literacy: Trains volunteer tutors to help adults with basic reading, writing, and math skills. One-to-one tutoring and/or group classes meet students where they are and help them reach their individual goals. -English Language Acquisition for Adults: Provides free classes for immigrants, refugees, and anyone else who wants to speak, write, and read in English. Students come from more than 40 different countries and have education levels that vary from college graduates to not being able to read in their native language(s). - The Literacy Intensive: A special combination of all of our programs that helps children and adults alike.
