Mission: Blue ridge literacy council is dedicated to transforming lives through improved literacy and
Programs: In 2016/17 blue ridge literacy council (brlc) served 232 students that came for intake and testing, with 194 students being matched with a tutor for adult basic skills and english as a second language programs. Students worked with 116 trained volunteer tutors to improve their english communication skills or increase their literacy skills including writing, reading pronunciation, basic math, computer/ digital, health and workplace literacy.
154 students of 194 students served had workplace goals. 20% of those served with work related goals experienced better employment, got a raise, or were promoted. 100% of all students reached one or more of their goals, and 60% of all students increased their overall literacy skills. 70% of those we served were women. 146 volunteers donated 13,904 hours - the equivalent of $335,642. 56 or 7 full-time staff members.
