Mission: Project Linus is a 100% volunteer non-profit organization with a two-fold mission.
First, it is our mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer "blanketeers."
Second, it is our mission to provide a rewarding and fun service opportunity for interested individuals and groups in local communities, for the benefit of children.
Programs: Project Linus provides ongoing support to health facilities that serve children, through our chapters and coordinators throughout the United States. We offer ongoing support, training and a yearly conference to chapter coordinators.
I am a novice at crocheting, but I really need something to do with my hands while I am watching sports! Project Linus works for people that want to volunteer at home on their own time, as well as those that want to dedicate scheduled time to events. Some are incredibly artistic, but there is also room for people like me.
My chapter (North and Central Chicagloand) is extremely active with regular group gatherings and is dedicated to creating the best possible blankets to distribute to children that need them. The volunteer events have been a great experience in the ideas that are shared and the encouragement offered all around.
I discovered Project Linus from a friend who crochets. I decided to look into it and truly, it is an amazing grassroots effort! The Sacramento Chapter is an amazing group of people, they give their hearts along with blankets and quilts. The mission statement lives in my heart and I am honored to be a part of Project Linus, both nationally and in Northern California.
