Mission: The mission of the ywca is to eliminate racism and empower women and children. The ywca of lincoln strives to carry out this mission by ensuring that its programs and structure are in tune with multi-cultural needs. For example, the ywca of lincoln was instrumental in supporting the creation of the lincoln citizens against racism and discrimination (card). As an autonomous women's organization, the ywca works to empower women, and seeks peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.
Programs: Respite--families benefit from the ywca lincoln's respite services throughout southeast nebraska. We serve families in crisis, foster parents, care givers of adults with alzheimer's, children with disabilities, or frail elderly. In addition, the first three friday evenings of every month, parents can bring their children to the ywca for a safe, fun night out.
education and outreach--job outfitters is one of the ywca lincoln's most recognized programs. Low-income women, women-in-crisis and women who are attending a local university shop job outfitters for career-appropriate clothing, interview tips and access to job-related resources. The smart girls club is in five diffferent elemenatary schools, allowing girls in 4th and 5th grades to explore science, math, and related technology. The cirriculum supports what the girls are learning in school and professional women visit the club to show that girls really can be math and science whizzes.
