My experience with Compass Inn led to becoming a volunteer. Hearing the history of the Inn in the early 1800's was exciting and interesting. The exhibits at the Inn are a connection to the history of our early travels across the new and developing United States. The earlier travelers were heading to the west and expanding the country rapidly by the use of Conestoga Wagons and stagecoaches. The problems these early travelers faced are well presented in a setting that makes you fee like you are there with them. The Conestoga wagon display represents the history of trucking. These wagons and the horses were the tractor and trailer trucking units hauling goods over treacherous roads in all kinds of weather to build and develop our young country. The history is explained in a manner that will make you smile and make you wonder how these early people were able to move very heavy loads of goods such great distances. The Stagecoach history will give you an understanding of what took place in a typical ride down the Pike, including the hazards of the tipping over of the coaches. The Inn tour will illustrate the type of accommodations these early travelers would be able to have when they made their rest stops. The tours are listed as History with a Smile and you will definitely leave with fond memories of your visit for years to come. It is an educational tour for young and old alike. The artifacts are many and their uses are explained in a friendly manner with questions answered as the tour proceeds. I liked it so much i ended up as a volunteer for the last 12 years. I consider the tours and displays at the Inn as a 5 star rating. I have had many wonderful praises for the tours we lead.
