Nonprofit Overview
Causes: Children & Youth, Youth Development Programs
Mission: Lights Camera Discover was built on a simple foundation, to effectively break the circle of generational poverty you have to equip the next generation with education in careers that are “in demand”. Our mission is to provide free, accessible and effective STEAM programming leading to secondary education and then to STEAM careers with the goal is closing the circle in generational poverty. We develop, in our student’s, a sense of pride, self-worth, strength and appreciation of community commitment through performance and digital arts. Lights Camera Discover will be one of the catalysts to infuse a cooperative spirit that will bring forth the creativity of oneself.
Results: Founded in 2011, Lights Camera Discover (LCD) is a nonprofit organization that works with our youth providing them opportunities to grow confidence, build self-esteem, and learn teamwork by participating in a series of workshops that teach various aspects of performing and digital arts. We held our first two programs in FL in 2012 & 2013 We held our first two after school programs in Phoenix in 2014 & 2015 Since 2016 We have held after school, summer and weekend workshops in phoenix (4 programs a year) In 2017 we held our first program in Denver. In 2018 we held 2 weekend workshops for the Denver Public Library (who we are partners with). In 2018 we held our first of many weekend workshops in Bellwood, IL Awards * June 2018- NBC channel 12 non-profit spotlight * March 2019- SXSW 2019 Community Service Organization Honoree * October 2019- City of Phoenix Mayor Awards Innovative Arts Organization Finalist * February 2020- Phoenix Suns Golden Standard Award Winner
