My name is Natasha Heykoop and I am the Founder and President of Lighthouse For Veterans. Our story began from tragedy. On Thanksgiving Day, 2015, my brother in law, Jeremy, took his own life when he lost his battle with PTSD. After losing him I decided that I needed to do something to help our Veterans. I gathered a few great folks to help me form a Board of Directors, and in November of 2017 - Lighthouse For Veterans was born. We haven't looked back since. We hold multiple events every year, from a Poker Tournament, Bowling Tournament, two car shows, and a Golf Tournament, to Veteran retreats, and partnering with other nonprofits to raise awareness of the Veteran suicide epidemic. I am a certified QPR Gatekeeper Trainer, which is a fancy way of saying that I can teach the signs to look for to know if someone is suicidal, the questions to ask if you believe someone is contemplating suicide, and the resources to get someone to safety, and to get the help that they need. Lighthouse For Veterans has a vision to open stables to begin an equine therapy program designed specifically for Veterans. We would also be able to offer more Veteran Retreats - as often as once a month, eventually.
