I can’t think of a better way to serve the local and global community than volunteering at Lighthouse. I work once a week as an English language aide and, at the end of my shift, I feel happy yet humbled by my encounters with amazing people from around the world. They are eager to learn a new language and new ways (and to share their hard-earned lessons in life). Despite the obvious traumas that many have endured, they conduct themselves with integrity, resilience, and often a generous dosage of humor. Clearly, they enjoy the nurturing environment at Lighthouse and all that the charity offers in support of their onward progress. (And don’t forget to check out the fabulous bakery if you swing by)!
My volunteer experience at Lighthouse Charities has been incredibly impactful. Witnessing the fortitude and courage of the refugees we support has been eye-opening, a powerful reminder that it's not just about the help we give, but also about the bonds we make as we overcome differences and discover we have a lot more in common than at first glance. It's incredible to see firsthand the fruit of Lighthouse's labor in their effort to help people through language instruction, legal support, and community integration.
Lighthouse Charities is life changing. I have been blessed to be able to volunteer by teaching English to refugees from around the world for about a year and a half. Hearing their stories of the hardships they have endured in their life opens your heart to love them so much. It provides opportunities to help them with their goals of providing a better life for themselves and their families. Lighthouse charities helps them become self reliant and independent by teaching them English, giving them job skills and experience they need to be able to stand on their own feet. Some refugees have never been in a classroom setting so they start off not know how to read or write. It is such a joy to see when they implement what they have learned at lighthouse charities and see them thrive. I have been blessed to help a refugee from Rwanda & Afghanistan study for their US citizenship test for several months. They spent many hours a week preparing for their test, practicing their english and working on writing in English. Because lighthouse charities provided this opportunity to help them, they are both new United States citizens!
The staff shows so much love to the refugees and they go above and beyond 9-5. They invest their own time, money and resources to help them become as independent as possible. They are not only helping them but they are changing the lives of their children and families. It has been life changing to be a part of this wonderful non profit.
My time spent at Lighthouse has been such an eye-opening gift! I help to teach English to refugees whose perseverance and cheerful hearts have taught me far more than I have taught them. I am so amazed at all this organization helps these wonderful people to do! Lighthouse not only provides jobs/training, but English language instruction, citizenship process support, connections, and basic needs for those who enter this country with little-to-no resources. The environment is one of love and family and I feel so blessed to be a volunteer here and to work with such incredible people!
I started volunteering at Lighthouse Charities after coming home from a proselyting mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As I started to serve, I quickly fell in love with the mission of Lighthouse Charities and the people there. I enjoyed working with the English teachers to help teach English, but more than anything I loved getting to know the refugees and learning more about them. I have come to love them all so much and I wouldn't trade my experience for anything in the world. I'm so grateful for Lighthouse Charities and all that they do.
What an amazing period of time to get to volunteer at Lighthouse. The feeling and environment is one of caring, support, love for all people, kindness, respect and joy! I do not say this lightly. My heart expanded and I was changed for the better to get to interact and work with such amazing people.
Lighthouse Charities is a fantastic nonprofit! When I went to volunteer with the ladies from my church we were given a tour of the facility and we were taught about the mission of this charity. The volunteer coordinator was very warm and knowledgeable and she clearly shared a connection with the refugees whom they were helping. Following the tour, we were able to work in the back warehouse and we met some of the refugees who work there. This nonprofit seems very organized and caring. We even saw some women learning English. I was very impressed with the way they train refugees and teach them the skills needed to be successful in this country. Many of them have clearly endured a lot and they have a desire to build a good life here for themselves and their families. This is a charity I am happy to support any way that I can and I will be back to volunteer there again.
I always look forward to my weekly volunteer time at Lighthouse Charities! It is a joy and privilege to work with the wonderful staff and the clients they serve and employ there. The refugees and their families have been through horrific trials and Lighthouse Charities is there to assist them in their transition to a new country - job training, English classes, community resources, and most importantly friendship! My family has even come to volunteer with me and we have enjoyed getting to know families from other countries and cultures.
LIghthouse Charities is an incredible organization! The staff are amazing and work hard to provide job training, English classes, citizenship assistance, and help in every aspect of life so each refugee can develop a successful life here in the United States. I have had the privilege to volunteer in the ESL classes since August 2022 and come to love each student. The stories of their journeys are humbling and give me a new perspective on life. Associating with this organization has blessed my life beyond measure!
Volunteering at Lighthouse Charities has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. All of the staff are so amazing, loving, giving all of their dedication and hard work to improving the lives of the refugees. They are constantly striving to improve and find new and creative ways to help. Cindy talks about the miracles that happen there all the time, and I have seen that to be true in so many cases. Working closely with the refugees themselves has made me feel so much gratitude for everything we have in this country. Hearing the stories of their lives in other countries is heartbreaking and yet they are here now and so very grateful for everything they have. The wonderful staff at Lighthouse Charities truly changes their lives. They have also changed mine. They have given me the opportunity to really get to know and love the refugees. Some of them will be my lifelong friends. These wonderful people from all over the world enhance my life and perspective in so many ways. They are always so grateful for everything that is done for them or given to them. I feel so blessed to have all of them, staff and refugees, in my life.
Lighthouse Charities plays a crucial role in changing the lives of so many amazing people. I have had the privilege of volunteering to help teach English. Many of the people we teach English to have lived in Refugee camps for over 15 years and have gone through so much more than I can even express. It is an amazing feeling to help them learn English and give them new opportunities in the US. This organization is amazing and teaches all that come important skills to help them be self-reliant and help them in the process to become US citizens. I can't say enough good things about volunteering here. Everyone is so happy to be there and the environment is inspiring. The refugees are so hard-working and grateful. They are a joy to be around and I look forward to being with them every week.
I've been volunteering at Lighthouse Charities since January 2023 and can't say enough about how wonderful they are! Each refugee in their program is thoughtfully nurtured as they progress toward independence and citizenship. The staff and volunteers at Lighthouse are so kind and dedicated, they never cease to amaze and inspire me.
