Over the years - when I had lost health insurance coverage-- I had utilized services at Lifelong Medical Care Clinic. I was very impressed with the excellent care. 95% of my experience was very positive. Several years back -- there was a physician (who I hope is no longer there) who had a pattern of insisting and in a strangely verbose manner -- that his middle age (50+) women patients in their first visit and within less than three minutes of talking with them be sent for mental health evaluations before he would treat them further insisting they were depressed. Hmmn? Since when is an MD able to diagnose depression? I guess there can be bad apples in every barrel. Otherwise other than that isolated time period-- This clinic is not only a valuable resource and efficient --the staff is overall very kind and supportive.
This is a great organization. It serves about 16,000 low income and uninsured folks with high quality health care. I volunteer there, so I know that the money is well spent -- people work hard for modest pay, the place is well run, and the clients love it. I myself have been a client for 14 years, and I have had excellent service. And by the way, community owned health centers like this one have proven to improve the health of their communities in many places.
