Life Services Alternatives provides an incredibly supportive and loving care for people with developmental disabilities. We have had a family member living in one of their homes for many years and I could not imagine a better place for her to be!
As a strategic planning consultant, I've worked with many non-profits. LSA, Life Services Alternatives, stands out for meeting and exceeding the needs of the I/DD community. Their mission is to provide exceptional community living and programs making a lasting impact. They have a clear strategy, are extremely well managed, and fiscally responsible. Their leadership and staff are passionate and fully engaged. It's an organization with a big heart that needs all our financial support so they can meet the increasing demand for more housing. Give today. It will make a big difference.

This is a top notch service organization.
They provide care for people who are incapable of caring for themselves, and they do it with enormous hearts. They treat their people with the utmost dignity and respect. I have watched them take care of a relative for many years now and we could not wish for anything better. We'd be lost without Life Services Associates.
We have a young adult (22) son with severe autism. We’d heard about LSA several years ago and were intrigued with their model for providing group homes for individuals with disabilities. The operative word being “home” vs. house. We visited their Ramita Home last Winter with our son. We had just visited another adult living community where it was clear, even though it was a beautiful area and very nice living units, our son was not comfortable there. Literally when we walked into the Ramita House where they were celebrating one of the resident’s birthdays, he came in and laid on the couch. The environment was very warm and familial. We were also impressed with the spirit and obvious enjoyment of the staff in doing what they were doing
LIFE SERVICES ALTERNATIVES, was the best the thing that ever happen to my son Jj Salaya, I think, since 2014, the best thing that happen to all of us , Jj learned so many many things in life being with LSA. Basically JJ is independent from his his family.....I lived in the Philippines, we messenger each other everyday. So grateful for LSA, Thank you God for the blessing .
Our son, Luc, has been a client of LSA for several years now. You never think that anyone could care for your child as well as you, but LSA Proved us wrong. Luc has made so much progress since he has been there because of the person centered culture and the amazing caregiver’s dedication. LSA welcomed us into the home and we feel so fortunate to have this lovely community in our lives now.
My brother lives in an LSA home and his experience has been exceptional. The staff are caring, responsive, friendly, and work to make authentic connections with my brother. LSA worked to find him a home that would allow him to grow and thrive. I can't say enough good thinks about LSA and the what they have done for his independence and happiness. I am an Occupational Therapist and the quality of care they provide my brother is incredible.
I had heard a podcast from LSA some years back about the homes that LSA had. I was impressed. The last two summers they have had a summer speaker series that was wonderful and full of knowledge with different speakers. Not only do they have housing , but they are helping this community learn through this series. A wonderful organization.
LSA provides an excellent home for my son Chris. I’m especially grateful for their care while he recovered from a severe case of Covid early in the pandemic. Here he is in a Ghostbusters costume, ready for Halloween.
Our 27-year old daughter has been living in an Life Services Alternatives (LSA) home for 2+ years now. She loves it there! She loves the companionship of the other 4 female residents and the engaged staff. She's always telling me what is on that day's menu and looks forward to meals there. Once or twice a year, the parents, residents and staff get together for a party.
The parents are close to one another as we are of the residents. The home has all the modern conveniences and is quite attractive both inside and out. We donate to LSA as often as we can.
LSA has been and still is a wonderful organization for our family.
They have provided a great home for our daughter for 2 years now.
The administration is very effective in focusing on the special needs of their residents. They go out of their way to provide good housing and our daughters house provides her with a very safe ,caring and stimulating environment.
Our daughter feels very much at home and treats the staff who look after her as part of her own family, missing them when they are off duty.
All the girls have very different needs in the home but the staff are very good at providing for their individual needs, yet they are one unit and our daughter is very concerned when one is away
LSA has been serving its residents with care, passion and professionalism since its creation. And has made a great difference in their lives and increasing their level of independence.
Residents are very happy and very active. They enjoy participating in indoor and outdoor activities especially when they celebrate and attend birthday parties and invite their friends. They attend outings to various places like San Francisco Zoo, Happy Hallow mini Zoo in San Jose, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Tech Museum in Downtown San Jose, Japanese Garden and many other places of interest,
I live down the street from one of LSA’s houses. It is wonderful to know and see that these women are able to be supported in a house they can call their own. I know that LSA has provided them the opportunity to become as independent as they can be. I have a son with special needs so I can really appreciate the work they are doing. Thank you LSA for making a difference in the lives of others!
I've been with LSA for almost 11 years and I've seen how LSA has improved our residents health and life in the community. The Office admin, home administrators and the staff work together with our residents' families and relatives to ensure that we are giving the best care. There were a lot of changes over the years but we still continue to provide the life that our residents deserve, a life in a home with people around them that they can call family.
My daughter has been a client since 2014 and has been very happy at LSA ever since. She has her own bedroom, the house is kept clean and food is abundant and fresh. She has been given assistance with extra care and that makes us both very pleased. There are not enough good places like LSA.
LSA provides an amazing in home day program for clients with developmental disabilities.
Staff are very caring and passionate about their job.
LSA is one of the hidden jewels in the bay area. I was on the board of LSA for 5 years and have seen the organization inside out. LSA consistently received great feedback on providing exceptional care to its residents. This exceptional service attitude goes to the dedication of each of the LSA team member and dedication of its leader Dana Hooper. After the financial crisis, the prices stayed same for 5+ years while the cost increased the cost to served. When many organizations closed, LSA survived with its relentless focus on providing exceptional services. LSA has been able to fortunate enough to get generous donors to build one house a year. However, there are lot of adults looking for a caring and family home like LSA. Keep up the good job!! Your dedication to provide caring and loving family is appreciated by many in the bay area.
I have worked for Life Services Alternatives for a little over 10 years. This is a wonderful organization that is dedicated to the Residents that live in the homes. The Administrators and Staff strive to help the Residents lead an independent life as much as possible. Providing care and support where needed and involving friends and families in the Residents life.
Though my son does not reside in an LSA home, he has friends who do. We have been familiar with their organization and services for many years and donate to create new homes and to support their programs. The residents of LSA homes enjoy their living situations and get great value from the programs LSA provides. As housing for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities gets more and more scarce, LSA is providing a priceless service to their residents, their families and friends, and to the communities in which they make homes.
My adult son lives in a LSA home and is extremely happy, as am I. LSA is an amazing organization that allows our loved ones to live in an environment that's just like home. All needs are met unequivocally, staff is kind, loving, well trained and appear to love their job. I can't say enough good things about this organization - they are indeed the best. I can't imagine my son living anywhere else, ever. The care is exceptional, the outings and entertainment are profoundly above expectations, and LSA keeps their clients stimulated, involved in the community, happy and secure. (Which makes mom happy and secure!). Thank you, LSA.
The home staff are exceptional human beings who are genuine in their care for the residents. It's just not another job to fill their day. They care, love, and are highly skilled. LSA sets a high bar for their programs, staff, and management team. The dedication shows. This is a great way to say thank you to LSA!
LSA is an amazing organization that provides housing and a loving ‘family’ life to those with physical and developmental disabilities. The staff and board members we have met are positive, kind, organized, and completely devoted to serving their clients. They are the gold standard for group housing models.
Life Services Alternatives is doing excellent community work. The support and engagement they have with their clients and those involved is something to truly appreciate. Their personal involvement with the lives of their clients has provided the comfort, care, and life that they need and deserve. Keep doing great things LSA!
LSA serves all of its clients with integrity and kindness. Though each of their houses and programs is unique, their team makes the day-to-day an interesting experience for everyone. They keep the clients, families, and the support teams engaged in the learning, growth, and development of each individual in their care. They also have a great day program that is open to the all adults with developmental disabilities.
Life Services Alternatives is THE best provider of Community Care homes and Programs in the Bay Area. The quality of the staff and homes exceed any expectations you may have of licensed care homes. I am proud to have been a supporter of this excellent non profit for years. Go LSA!

This is the gold standard of community care organizations . A leader in its field. LSA provides exceptional quality, not only through its direct care staff but also the management team and the lovely homes. Care and respect is at the heart of every LSA home and program.
Life Services Alternatives is hands down the best Social Service Provider in the State of California (and beyond)! They truly exemplify a person centered approach to their service delivery, creating meaningful opportunities and outcomes for the individuals they serve. I have been working in the field for over 30 years, and say confidently, they are fully committed to their mission "creating home and changing lives" for individuals with developmental disabilities. It's a true honor to work with such an excellent organization.
Life Services Alternatives always puts the individuals that they serve first. LSA cares about positive outcomes and full lives for the adults who are supported by their services.
Life Services Alternatives has provided an incredible community and home for my brother Kevin. The home has fostered his independence and allowed him to thrive. Beyond this, he lives in a beautiful home with caring and passionate staff. Please support this wonderful organization.
Life Services Alternatives is quite unique in it's mainstreaming approach for adults with developmental disabilities. The wonderful modern homes provide a great environment for the tenants to thrive. Being able to feel independent and part of a neighborhood is something everyone wants. Thank You LSA for making this possible for such a variety of needs.
I donate my time and professional services to non profits and in order to maintain a full time job and a home life (and some sanity), I have to choose from numerous requests. I wish there was more time in any given day to fulfill every request, but when someone pitched Life Services Alternatives to me and I did some research of my own, it wasn't even a question that I didn't want to work with them.
The quality of life that they provide to their clients is amazing and the most impressive thing to me is that they manage to grant disabled adults the ability to live independently in this crazy, crazy Bay Area housing market. I have several friends who have children that would benefit in several years from a non profit like this and I hope they are able find something like this when they are ready.
Life Services Alternatives are an incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and caring organization with the capacity to change not just the lives of the adults they serve, but their entire families in addition.
I am incredibly impressed with this organization. The need for housing and residential care for the developmentally disabled is overwhelming and often not up to the caliber you would want for a loved one. Life Service Alternatives is different, their homes are beautiful and well maintained and the staff truly care about the residents.
The LSA homes have a feeling of warmth, acceptance, and authenticity that reflects the exceptional culture of this organization. The genuine caring and attention that my brother receives from the team is evident in the way he responds to each of them. He looks forward to seeing them every morning and, by the end of the day, he is "all smiles" and doesn't want to leave. What LSA is able to do for a population that is largely invisible and unrecognized is remarkable.
I have been a great admirer of Life Services Alternatives Homes. They do a fantastic job of creating a home for people with disabilities. Each home is exactly that with care-givers that are warm and loving and treat each person with dignity. Would that all people could find such a place to live. It would be a better world in which to live. LSA does an outstanding job, offering beautiful establishments as well as loving care. They should be recognized for their outstanding achievement!
In the last 10 years, I have watched this organization grow from 3 homes to 11 today. They have provided outstanding care to dozens of adults with disabilities, providing them the opportunity to live full lives in the community. I have seen these adults go off large amounts of prescribed medication to small doses, go from non-verbal to speaking and go from non-participation to working in the community. It's such important work to make sure all people can live in their own homes and live fulfilling lives. If only their were more beautiful homes that provide such great care.
Just one tour of an LSA home is enough to get a feel for the truly remarkable experience that the committed staff deliver on a daily basis...24-7. It's no wonder that LSA is getting so much attention; they exceed all expectations through transcending the typical 'care-giving' environment. By creating a love-filled and inviting home for each individual, LSA has a uniquely organic recipe with happiness and success baked in.
Life Services Alternatives set the gold standard for residential care homes.
Our son, Kevin, has been a resident of Cypress House (one of LSA's 11 homes) for almost exactly one year. It's more than a safe and wonderful home for Kevin, it really is the best possible place for him. The amazing and experienced staff are not only caring and understanding, they are also fun.
The other residents are a great group of guys and they all look out for each other. They enjoy some recreational activities together.
Kevin is learning new independent living skills and gaining confidence.
We cannot say enough about the amazing non-profit LSA. They are simply the best
Tina, Walter and Kevin Underwood
LSA continues to shine as a model for providing quality homes and exceptional programs for special needs adults. They celebrate life at every opportunity and it shows in their residents' success. LSA recently received the Top Service Provider of the Year award from the regional center overseeing five local counties. Well deserved LSA!

I have had the pleasure of being affiliated with LSA since August 2015, both as a donor and grandparent of a resident living at an LSA home. My granddaughter is also a participant in LSA's Community Integration day program where she has the opportunity to volunteer at several non-profit organizations, working alongside with other program participants as well as folks from other organizations. We could not be any happier with the services we are receiving from the skilled Direct Services Professionals who provide professional yet warm care for all of the residents, to the administrative staff who's dedication to providing the best services possible is evident in all they do.

My granddaughter, Amber, became a resident in LSA's Cambrian home a little over a year ago and just four months ago she joined their Community Integration Training Program. I have nothing but positive things to say about her experiences with LSA. Amber was warmly welcomed to LSA's newest house when it opened last August. We have found the staff to be warm, professional, and communicative. Amber has settled in beautifully and clearly considers the staff and other four residents to be her extended family. Their regular weekly outings include Great America, plays, museums, visits to San Francisco, and other fun places. They make up a beautiful, caring, diverse family who prepare meals, eat, play, and help out with household chores as any family does.
Between the independence Amber has gained by having her own house and the skills she is learning in the Community Integration day program we have seen Amber's self confidence skyrocket.
Kudos to an amazing organization!
LSA is a truly magical organization that creates spectacular residential experiences for our disabled community members. They provide beautiful homes, delightful programs and services and kind and expert staff. However, purchasing these homes at Bay Area prices means they can’t build as many homes as we need. If you are looking to support an incredible nonprofit, THIS IS IT.
This is an excellent non-profit organization that has provided residential and other services to the developmentally disabled for many years in the San Jose area. I am the parent of a disabled child and have experience of over 30 years in witnessing and evaluating care levels in residential care homes for the disabled. The quality of service provided by LSA is exemplary and I have not seen better. I am a board member and provide financial support and am proud to be helping this fine organization by both levels.
My daughter has been a resident in LSA's Jordan-Bennett home for over two years now. When they talk about offering exceptional living for persons with developmental delays, they mean it. She has her own room, decorated in her favorite, Miss Piggy, theme. The home is spacious, upbeat and the approach is client centered, focusing on strengths and offering dignity, hope and joy. Right away Vanessa dubbed it "The Safe House." "What do you like the best," I ask. "The food, the bed, the activities," she says. And what activities! A Saturday jaunt to San Francisco to taste the clam chowder at Fisherman's wharf, going to plays and meeting the actors, seeing big paintings of ballerinas at the Triton Museum. Who wouldn't want to go? There is always something to look forward to living at Life Services Alternatives homes.

My daughter had declined in her ability to walk. Only when two people steadied her could she move about. Right away LSA had their excellent physical therapist assess her. Now she can walk with a walker and gait belt, held gently by only one person. More than that, the lovely home with her own, "Miss Piggy room," the array of stimulating, uplifting activities, her encouragement to choose her own clothes, fold laundry, to express her feelings to attentive, caring staff, have restored the light in her eyes. She starts every day telling anyone who will listen, that she is happy. Why, we ask. "Group home" she says, calling it, 'The Safe House." LSA has created a life for persons with developmental and other disabilities, that is one any of us would be happy to live. Fortunately families may participate. An example of this was at the lovely tea served in May. This is an exceptional non-profit!
I am board member at LSA for the last 3 years. It's an amazing organization filled with passionate people serving the autistic community. Hat off to the management and the employees of LSA who provide exceptional quality care to its 55 residents in 1 1 homes. LSA was recently recognized "Service provider of the year" by San Andreas Regional Centre which speaks volume to the greatness of this organization. I am privileged to be associated with an estimated organization and furthering it's mission "Creating home, Changing lives"
LSA has been a godsend to my family and the community. My special needs son would have nowhere to live if it were not for LSA. Instead, he is cared for in my own community. LSA gives what nothing else can do: peace of mind that your loved ones are properly cared for. They are funded completely by community donations so I urge all my friends and family to contribute.
My granddaughter has been living with her LSA house mates for over a year now. I have seen her mature in ways I never thought possible. LSA's special staff are remarkable and provide a wonderful level of support for their residents. She also attends the Community Integration Training program each day where she continues to learn new skills in a community setting. I really appreciate the care and service that LSA provides my Granddaughter and other individuals that receive services across the agency.
My niece Ambie has been a resident of LSA Cambrian house for a year. In the last year I have noticed a huge change in her. She has became more independent and social. I attribute this to the staff at LSA. They truly care for these ladies and provide a safe independent living environment. The respect they have for these ladies is awesome. At the BBQ they had a few months ago one of the staff members thanked the ladies for inviting them to the there home. This truly touched my heart. My family and I owe so much to LSA and what they have provided to my niece.
My daughter has a fabulous home at LSA Rivermark in Santa Clara. She has lived
there since being moved from Agnew. She is very happy there and so are we.
With modern technology and a great staff we have enjoyed being able to
"facetime" with her. I highly recommend Life Services Alternatives. They truly
love and care for residents like family :-)
After our retirement, we tried to move with our daughter from central Virginia to be closer to her sibling in the bay area. We have looked for a residential group home around the bay area her in a period of two years before we found Life Services Alternatives. LSA is the only provider that shares our expectation and we were impressed at our first visit. Many factors made them standing out among other providers, such as each resident has own bedroom for privacy; homes are spacious, kept clean and comfy; staff are friendly and supportive; healthy meals and snacks; different activities and some are individualized planned and supported; administrators are willing to listen and work out of solutions when issues come up, etc. She is happy to be in her home; sometimes she even refuses to leave with us for a home visit. She also attends LSA Community Integration Training Program. It is helpful to have understanding staff and lower ratio of clients to staff ratio, which can adapt her needs easier. The community training helps her reduce her transitional anxieties. We are very pleased with all aspects that provided by this wonderful organization
My autistic atasiac step daughter was in dark hours, depressed, and seeming to have lost her will to live, when an opening at LSA arose. Once I meet the staff, no doubts remained, she should live there. She has thrived under their system of continuous improvement, consistent levels of care, and doing everything they say they do. Heart felt care from top to bottom level of the organization. They strive to be the best of the best, exceeding the minimum requirements by a wide margin. Thank you for all you do.
I have been a part of this remarkable organization for over 10 years. In my working career I have never worked with a more committed group of people that are truly devoted to making Life Services Alternatives a great place to live and a great place to work!
