Mission: Let's Kick ASS is a grassroots movement of HIV Long-Term Survivors devoted to honoring the unique and profound experience of living through the AIDS epidemic. Established in 2013, we focus on empowering, engaging, unifying, and elevating HLTS to reclaim our lives, end isolation, and envision a future we never dreamed we'd live. We foster Healthy Aging with HIV through various programs, town halls, exercise classes, and therapist-facilitated support groups focused on building a thriving mindset. We're a 501(c)(3) California non-profit corporation. Our EIN is 46-5082959
Results: We've elevated the conversation about HIV Long-Term Survivors by defining AIDS Survivor Syndrome, a term our founder coined to describe the experience of surviving the AIDS epidemic. Now we have research to back up the anecdotal evidence. ASS is a term that honors survivors who have survived a historically unique epidemic. Multiple casualties of young people characterized the AIDS epidemic. It forced the community to do the work of seniors in our youth—caretaking sick and dying people, attending high numbers of funerals, and fighting stigma from lack of understanding of how HIV was/is transmitted.
Target demographics: HIV Long-Term Survivors thrive and age well.
Direct beneficiaries per year: 5,000 + Long-Term Survivors
Geographic areas served: Based in San Francisco and work nationally
Programs: Empowering HIV Long-Term Survivors to thrive through connection, engagement, and meaningful action. Raising awareness that leads to action. Policy work to improve quality of life.
