Mission: Lhi's primary exempt purpose is dedicated to eliminating barriers to healthcare and promoting health and wellness for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (lgbt) - identified women and transgender men.
Programs: Part iii lhi access programs provide safe, welcoming, culturally sensitive and competent access to no cost health screenings and a vast array of health and wellness information primarily for uninsured and underinsured lgbt identified-women and transgender men. Lhi also illuminates the pathways to further diagnostics and treatment. Access programs include lhi produced and funded biannual, multiple provider and partner health fairs, health screenings and health referrals. Lhi's healthcare partners include:legacy community health serv, the rose, univ of tx m. D. Anderson, ctr for women's heart & vascular health at tx heart inst, san jose clinic, cvs caremark, planned parenthood gulf coast & montrose center. New partners for 2013 include: memorial hermann's neighborhood health center and houston area community services.
in 2013, lhi provided 3 health and wellness screenings and services that included 95 mammograms, 109 pap/well person exams, 116 blood screenings (a1c, cbc, cmp, tsh, hiv, lipids, rpr & hcv), 117 heart & vascular risk assessments (complete lipids profile, blood pressure, bmi, survey & consultation with cardiologist), 89 body and skin scans, and 42 flu shots to 257 uninsured and underinsured lgbt women and transgender men. 116 volunteers assisted with the health screenings. Lhi established a partnership with memorial hermann's neighborhood health center northwest, which served as the site for lhis yearlong efforts to target racial and ethnic minority lgbt women, a population that is even less likely than the overall lgbt population to access life-saving preventitive care.
