Lend A Hand Senior Assistance, Tucson, AZ, is a non-profit organization of 13 neighborhoods, business organizations and faith communities in the central part of Tucson, north of the University. Our main goal is to help seniors living in our neighborhoods be able to stay independent and in their own homes for as long as they can. We provide free services: rides to doctor appointments, shopping and errands; friendly visits and calls to make sure everything is going well; distribution of free produce and other food; assistance with home cleaning, minor home repairs and yard work; a monthly social gathering including field trips; a weekly writing group and other help as needed and appropriate. We do this with all with volunteers and our greatest need is more volunteer drivers. Volunteering with Lend A Hand is so rewarding -- you meet wonderful people, who have interesting lives and who are so grateful for any help we can give them. It is my favorite volunteer activity. It is also great volunteer activity because you can pick the number of people you work with each week and you can pick the times you want to be active. You can do as much or as little as you want each week. But even driving one person a week will make a big contribution to LAH.
