Mission: LIFT''s mission is to enhance access to justice for children and families by providing legal information, community education, and compassionate guidance, while promoting system-wide reform of the courts and public agencies.
Results: Celebrating more than 15 years of operation, LIFT serves nearly 30,000 people annually. Across all of LIFT's programs, an average of 93% of respondents rate services as “extremely helpful." This year, LIFT is significantly improving our already rigorous program evaluation with the implementation of Salesforce’s Nonprofit database, which will allow us to better track, analyze, and report our outcomes.
Target demographics: LIFT's programs serve parents and relative caregivers who are involved in New York's Family Courts. The majority of participants are either black (58%) or Latino/a (32%). LIFT serves an equal number of mothers (41%) and fathers (41%), in addition to grandparents and other relatives (18%). One in 10 of the people LIFT serves are monolingual Spanish-speaking, and most have low levels of educational attainment and unstable housing situations. A staggering 95% of those we serve have no lawyer for their Family Court case and are low-income (e.g. less than $19,000 annual income).
