Mission: The mission of legal assistance to the elderly is to ensure that elderly and disabled residents of san francisco are able to exercise their legal rights and to have full access to all of the benefits and services to which they are entitled.
Programs: During the 2016-17 fiscal year legal assistance to the elderly provided legal advice and/or representation to 888 san francisco residents age sixty and over and to 90disabled residents between the ages of eighteen and fifty-nine. Approximately 60% of those served had incomes below 200% of the federal poverty level and 58% of those served were members of racial, ethnic or linguistic minorities. Substantive legal problems dealt with included: landlord/tenant (62%); housing (1%); wills & estates (1%); consumer finance (10%); income maintenance/ public benefits (social security, supplemental security income, pensions, etc. ) (13%); physical & financial abuse (10%); individual rights/ protective services/ conservatorships/ miscellaneous (3%).
