Harm not Help:
Retraumatizing, Irresponsible, Unethical
After my daughter's experience at this agency she actually said "Mom, no one cares." Not only were we re-introduced to the trauma but fear of abandonment was re-enforced. We were so vulnerable, we trusted you with the most personal details and we were dismissed like we were nothing which made us feel unimportant.
The first time that my daughter was supposed to meet with Kareema, she cancelled within the hour of our appointment by phone message, which I received in the waiting room. I live on the southside, had drove to the northside to pick-up my daughter, and then to the eastside for the appointment. The secretary told me that Kareema was at lunch and that "things happen."
The next time that we show-up, I had to step-out to speak to the police about the trauma, they wouldn't see her until my phone call was over. My daughter was excited to work with Kareema, they had a good repoire. We made an appointment in person with Kareema, right after the appointment. Within minutes of pulling out of the parking lot, Kareema called to tell me that she might need to change the appointment and that she would call me the next day, if she didn't, then I needed to call her. This seemed very unnecessary and difficult, like I had to jump through hurdles. I called and left a message, then spoke to the secretary. Minutes later, I got a phone call saying we need to reschedule three weeks out. My daughter was in crisis and nothing was taken seriously. I called to schedule a crisis meeting and was told nothing was open. Just like my daughter said, no one seemed to care. It was all a big game. I felt like Alice in Wonderland or like I was in Wizard of Oz.
