Thank-you LHCC for doing the community event on Saturday. My daughters enjoyed being outdoors and playing with their new friends, and I was happy to meet some mom's from the community. We love what you are doing for us families
LHCC has given me an opportunity to connect with students and families I would not have otherwise. I can feel the love and care for these children every time I am a tutor. I enjoy building relationships with the children!
it is a great opportunity to learn from each other. All of us learn something new every time we get together. A safe place to lift each other up. And a great opportunity to influence the new generations!!!!
Volunteering with LHCC has been a wonderful experience. I have seen a great improvement in my student's language and math skills and have formed a relationship with her and her family. If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that is both challenging and rewarding, LHCC is the place for you!
LHCC is one of the most rewarding non-profits for which I have served for almost 3 years. The children come each week eager to learn and the volunteers are blessed to see them grow and reach greater heights week after week. The children and their families are a part of a christian learning environment and have a place they can find support of classroom activities as well as participate in enrichment. Come join the after-school program and see for yourself.
Our family has been blessed by the work of this group of volunteers and staff who help my children every week. I am so glad my friend told me about this program. Thanks
"It was a great experience, and the work your organization is doing is really inspiring. Daniella was super sharp and I have a feeling she's going to do pretty well when she heads back to school." Marty S December 2018
Thank-you so much for all you do for the children. I have seen the benefits of my time with Jackie. Her mom is also easy to speak to and I enjoy helping both of them.
I went to visit this past week and really enjoyed what they are doing. Children are helped by volunteers and seem to be getting the help they need. We did reading and homework. This is a worthwhile opportunity for volunteers
I have been tutoring with the LHCC after school homework helper Study Buddies South Charlotte as part of a group from Hands On Charlotte. Tuesday nights are the highlight of my week. I have not missed a session in the two years I have volunteered there.
The kids are awesome and it helps me keep my brain challenged. Have you tried doing 4th grade math lately? They are doing things we did not do until high school.
The LHCC volunteers who we work with are wonderful people. Each week is a different experience,. What separates this group from other tutoring groups is that they are also involved with the kids families trying to facilitate the parents interaction with their children's school and teachers ; and encouraging them to read with their kids every night.
We are just with them on night a week. It is our function to be a catalyst to encourage them to make reading and developing their math skills a part of their lives all week. We also encourage the kids to engage in critical thinking and to become responsible for their actions. Ultimately it is the kids themselves who have to make the effort every day to learn and grow.
I had a very good session with my student this week. She warmed up to me considerably and we were able to connect. She went from being very shy and suspicious of me last week to trusting and eager for my help. She is a very sweet child. Thanks for the opportunity to help children who are willing to learn
There is much to be gained from volunteering with LHCC. They have made the volunteer experience one where students and parents can be actively involved in the one hour of tutoring help each week. I like helping out when I feel useful, and I do. Thank-you
We began a tutoring program a few years ago for school-aged children in East Charlotte. We struggled to find enough volunteers and, as well, to fine tune the program to be as effective as we would have liked. Learning Help Centers of Charlotte stepped in and provided assistance, not only in recruiting volunteers, but in helping our volunteers to become effective tutors.
Hands On Charlotte (HOC) has partnerned with Learning Help Centers of Charlotte (LHCC). to create a fun and fulfilling experience for HOC volunteers during the past 2.5 years, in order to provide homework and reading assistance to marginalized children.
Serving the community alongside your organizations staff and volunteers has been rewarding and beneficial. Serving these students and their families allows us to fulfill our mission and become united with our local community partners in serving the holistic educational needs of the entire family.
The initiation of programs that engage the entire family has also been encouraging to observe, through services that your organization offers, with partners like the Charlotte Public Library and Mission Athletes International.
We are grateful for the study buddy partnership on the south- and east-side of Charlotte and wish you continued success.
I really like the work that Learning Help Centers of Charlotte is doing in the community. The director and volunteers are passionate about the work they do and are dedicated and committed to the cause of helping those in need. I'm encouraged by the fact that this organization serves people in Charlotte, NC because this is the area that I grew up in. I'm excited to see what the organization does next and hope more people will see how they can contribute their time and/or money to what they are trying to do.
The Learning Help Centers of Charlotte provides such a wonderful program. Not only do children from low income areas get extra help on their homework, but they also gain a mentor outside of their home that can positively influence their lives. So grateful to be a part of this organization!
I have been volunteering with LHCC for several years now. The founding family of this organization are wonderful and selfless people, that truly live in a way that embodies what it means to serve others. I was paired with a 6 year old boy that lacked confidence and struggled with reading comprehension. I have watched him grow to a much more confident and positive first grader, that is not only at or above his reading level, but excelling in math as well. While we work to serve these children each week, it is the volunteers that truly benefit from the relationship, as the children's joy is contagious. I feel blessed to be a part of this organization.
Thank you to everyone for making the holiday event so special for all the families. We had a great time and loved hanging out with the parents and enjoying the ethnic foods on offer
I have been blessed to work with B, a bright, eager to learn, little girl who loves to read. Our relationship serves as a wonderful example of how valuable timely interventions can be. B’s main challenge was that she could not answer questions about what she read. She was just sounding out words or guessing them based on the pictures in the book (quite clever of her), and frequently her pronunciation was incorrect. Yet, she’d persevere, desperately wanting to learn and to please her teachers.
Her difficulties were being blamed on the fact that English was her second language. After working with B for a few months, I suspected that further intervention was needed. LHCC came alongside her mother to help her get speech therapy for B through the school system. Her pronunciation is improving which is also helping her differentiate between similar sounding words! As she has been exposed to more literature and to field trips through LHCC, her ability to relate to what she is reading has expanded, also.
She is currently on grade level and her confidence is soaring. What a privilege it is to work with this beautiful little girl and begin to see the fruits of our labors. B has a distance to go, and I am so grateful that I get to continue her journey with her!
