Mission: Since 2006, we have worked with over 6,000 individuals and 150 agencies and to improve the diet and quality of life of low-income californians.
Programs: Leah's pantry relies on a combination of individual donations, foundation support, government contracts and program service revenue to fulfill our mission. Individual donations have been essential to our organization's growth and success. These donations have launched: food smarts workshops, now a usda/fns approved cooking and nutrition curriculum with over 5,000 graduates. The food smarts training program, now a usda/fns approved train-the-trainer with over 150 graduates. Cook it! Kits - a "kitchen in a bag" for low-income residents of single resident occupancy hotels (sros) in san francisco.
As a qualified nutritionist I was very excited to volunteer with Leah’s Pantry. They have created an excellent program for healthy eating for both adults and children, through which they aim to improve people’s health at the individual and community level. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff guide participants through an exploration of the principles of healthy eating and give advice on how to implement better choices in people’s own lives through cooking demonstrations, sharing recipes, group discussions and creating SMART goals. Their workshops are both fun and informative.
