Causes: Civil Rights, Voter Education & Registration, Voting Rights
Programs: The league of women voters of pa citizen education fund (cef) is dedicated to ensuring that all pennsylvanians have the information and tools necessary to participate effectively in local, state, and national government. The lwvpa-cef is the most trusted voice in pennsylvania on voter education and services. We never support or oppose specific candidates or parties. This allows us to be a trusted messenger to all pennsylvanians regardless of party affiliation. Additionally, the lwvpa-cef, working through our local affiliate leagues, holds dozens of voter registration events throughout the year in order to ensure that as many eligible pennsylvania voters as possible are registered. The lwvpa-cef is also a trusted source of information about how government works as well as candidate and initiative information for elections. In partnership with local leagues, we publish a "facts for citizens" guide with government contact information; publish nonpartisan voters' guides and maintain an online voter's guide website; hold candidates' forums; and mount forums, community discussions, presentations and other educational events addressing specific issues. Specifically, in the 2016 primary election, our statewide online voters' guide, vote411. Org attracted over 20,000 unique visitors to the site. We also provided a downloadable guide that included information on all the statewide candidates. Additionally we hosted two televised democratic senatorial debates as well as a forum for attorney general candidates. Our forums and debates are highly regarded by candidates, the public and the media for their focus on issues. We also provided telephone assistance to individuals who had questions about the candidates, how to register to vote, how to apply for an absentee ballot, as well as other questions about the election. The lwvpa-cef also worked to educate the public, policymakers and the media about the need for voting systems modernization in pennsylvania and advocate for increased ease of access to the ballot box. The league is committed to equal, free and fair access to the ballot, modernization of voting opportunities in pennsylvania, transparency in all aspects of pennsylvania's voting systems and citizens' participation in guarding the integrity of our election system. In addition, lwvpa-cef, in coordination with our local leagues, mobilized public education efforts including publishing articles and holding community forums. Specifically, we educated the public on: education policy and funding issues, redistricting reform, criminal justice reform, election reform, the functions of local and state government, and more.
