Causes: Civil Rights, Reproductive Rights
Mission: Law Students for Reproductive Justice is a national nonprofit network of law students and lawyers. Our organization educates, organizes, and supports law students to ensure that a new generation of advocates will be prepared to protect and expand reproductive rights as basic civil and human rights.
Programs: 1) CURRICULUM We strive to integrate reproductive rights curricula into legal education to ensure that interested law students have access to the educational experiences required to become effective legal advocates. To that end, we are focusing on new course offerings in Reproductive Rights Law, the provision of supplemental educational tools, and increased scholarship on reproductive rights and the law. The LSRJ National Office distributes innovative, student-generated educational materials and top-quality publications, including the Model Curriculum for Reproductive Rights Law, Constitutional Law Primer, and online Resource Guide, a repository in-progress of legal cases, law review articles, and books about sexual autonomy and reproductive rights. 2) PROFESSIONAL TRAINING LSRJ facilitates and enhances law students? summer internships through publication of its Internship Guide, tri-city intensive trainings, networking lunches with professionals, and stipends. We create new internship opportunities at reproductive justice organizations that are located in underrepresented regions or working with traditionally marginalized populations. 3) CAMPUS ACTIVISM We give reproductive justice a presence and RJ advocates a community at law schools throughout North America. Equipped with user-friendly ?Easy-Events-in-an-Envelope?, we are educating our peers on issues such as sex ed; being pro-faith and pro-choice; pregnant prisoners shackled during childbirth; toxic exposure and the reproductive health concerns of nail salon workers; and repercussions of the recent SCOTUS ruling on the federal abortion ban. 4) NETWORKING Each year, LSRJ hosts four Regional Trainings and one national event where LSRJ members and leaders of the reproductive health, rights, and justice movements come together to learn from, network with, and inspire one another. The burgeoning LSRJ Alumni Network connects current members to alumni through trainings, idea exchanges, and collective endeavors. The network enables new lawyers to directly support and mentor law students, thereby linking them to the broader RJ movement.
