This agency has gone above an beyond for me on several occasions while I was hospitalized in an inpatient psychiatric unit. I was having my rights as a human being taken away from me because the hospital felt I was a danger to myself and was then subjecting me to inhumane behaviors from staff, nurses, and my psychiatrist. If I even verbalized that I was having so-called "bad thoughts" I was put into isolation and then restrained for five plus hours, which I then learned was illegal. The psychiatrist also took me off all of my medicati9on that my out-patient psychiatrist (who I had been continuously working with for more than a year and was treating me for Anxiety and PTSD) had me on because he said there was "nothing wrong with me, except a personality defect that could not be treated inpatient." Having dropped my Axis 1 diagnosis and labeling me with only an Axis 11 diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder, he continued to hold me involuntarily without treatment (only what I felt was "punishment"). However, two advocates who I had previously worked with at this same hospital with similar issues became my saving grace yet again. Sara Webb and Anna Kreigger fought with me until the end. They came into the hospital to meet with me to come up with different plans of action. Whether that meant working on restraint laws and educating the staff, trying to relocate me to a different hospital where my rights would not be violated, and or the ultimate plan to get me discharged as soon as possible. If it were not for these two women continuously advocating for my rights as a mental health patient I would have fallen victim to the system. They never gave up and put countless hours into strategy planning for me. Not only were they willing to advocate for me in the hospital, but also wanted to make sure things went smoothly after my release. I honestly never believed that after the horrific care I was receiving in the hospital that there were still people who truly from the bottom of their hearts cared- and those are the people from this agency. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. And a special thanks to Anna and Sara!
