LCKC has been a big part of my life for over 10 years. In this time I have seen close to one hundred youth come through various parts of the program up to Olympic hopeful status.
The coaching staff is always top notch and the kids learn both paddle skills and life skills. Many athletes have gone on to their professional life with a teamwork and individual goal-mined thought process you rarely find.
They also have a good masters program for adult athletes.

Mission: To serve as a catalyst and as a legacy program of the 1996 summer centennial olympic games and to promote health, education and fitness for all ages and abilities through quality flatwater canoe & kayak programs.
Programs: Sprint racing team - the sprint racing team is made up of high performance, developmental and masters paddlers. All athletes are eligible to compete in local and national competitions while high performance athletes also train to compete in international events. During 2016, approximately 120 athletes trained at lckc. Fifteen athletes represented lckc and the us at international events in 2016. Lckc continues to host regattas at the lake lanier olympic venue.
youth programs - the lanier canoe and kayak club is committed to providing quality introductory paddlesports programs to the community incorporating water safety, fun, fitness and friendships. In 2016, 119 children ages 7-14 were introduced to the sport through summer day camp. The beginning racing league (brl) program is a six week program held twice a year to introduce children 10-15 to the sport and is the entry program for the sprint team. Teams of up to 25 athletes each practice twice weekly and race in two events during the six week program. In 2016, 227 youth participated in the brl program.
dragon boat program - there are eight dragon boats housed at the lanier canoe kayak club and used for camps, clinics, team building, and recreational programs throughout the year bringing thousands of people to the venue each year. The lckc is the local organizer and host to the annual hong kong dragon boat festival atlanta held each september. In 2016, 75 teams with approximately 7,000 people attended this one day event from throughout the us. All programs brought an estimated 10,000 people to the venue for dragon boat paddling in 2016. The lckc hosted the third annual gainesville-hall dragon boat challenge with a portion of the proceeds benefiting special olympics of hall county. Lckc now has their own dragon boat team training twice weekly and offers corporate team building.
other (classes/lessons/other events - 2016 started out with the annual polar bear swim with 100 participants. The lckc offers opportunities to the community to try paddlesport through programs and lessons. In 2016, approximately 1,000 people participated in programs, lessons, including adult learn to kayak, moonlight paddles, and rentals. Lckc hosted southern invitation regattas, summer sprints and paracanoe trials, and the halloween howl. Lckc also hosted usa sprint national team trials and canoe/kayak canada sprint national team trials.
