I work as an administrative assistant from Jan to June 2015 and have been a part of many initiatives of the Landmine Relief Fund and its local partners; Landmine Museum in Siem Reap, Cambodian Self-Help Demining, and Rural School Village Program. Never have I seen a charity take such a holistic approach to address the problems landmines cause. Minefields deny productive use of land that could go towards job creation among others while constantly posing a threat to life. Remote areas from touristy cities are 'low priority' on the mine clearance list in the eyes of the local government. The nonprofit expedites community development in these hazardous 'low priority' areas - LMRF clears minefields close to villages and farming communities, build and fund schools in villages that are too remote to practically access public education, provide landmine awareness workshops, provides higher education scholarships, and supports primary education programs in the relief center behind the Landmine Museum for disadvantaged children or those with special needs.
I taught students, coordinated resources, or administratively assisted in this large variety of projects.
Am I proud to have made a positive and lasting difference to health, community, security, and education? Yes, I am.
