Mission: To replace poverty with prosperity by implementing donor-funded projects that provide global humanitarian aid to communities and individuals in developing countries through in-kind, financial and technical assistance.
Programs: Land o'lakes international development provides in-kind, financial and technical assistance to communities and individuals in developing countries. 2017 projects included the following:in ethiopia: the growth through nutrition project supported vulnerable households to diversify their diets through household gardening, distribution of livestock packages (chickens, heifers, goats, and sheep). In kenya, projects:- addressed social determinants of health partly through income- generating opportunities along the livestock-focused value chain, improved household nutrition behaviors & household food security. - developed the livestock value chain in six counties in kenya. The project worked with numerous farmers via farmer field schools and linked them to markets for meat and hides. - indentified and scaled up business innovations in agriculture by facilitating investment and providing technical assistance to 16 proof of concept business inovations and ten pilot innovations. -worked as a sub to rti to engage youth in agriculturein madagascar, projects:- work in three components of maternal and child nutrition, rural livelihoods, and community disaster risk reduction. The project aims to reduce food insecurity in a southwestern region of madagascar. - built the capacity and asset base of small holder livestock producers and has trained men and women in health practices, distributed chickens and ruminants, and supported community livestock workers to provide health services. In malawi, projects: - focus on the dairy sector, providing training to over 1500 farmers on improved dairy methods and working with farmer associations to improve household farm income. - work with producers in selected fruit and vegetable value chains. Starting in 2016, the project is identifying appropriate agricultural products, identifying partners, and assessing the feasibilty of leveraging financing to support processors. In mozambique, projects:- develop the dairy value chain in mozambique by building the dairy industry through increasing production, developing milk cooperatives, training dairy farmers, and other dairy stakeholders. This project linked producers to processors. - seek to continue building the dairy industry and increase sustainability with investments in scaling up production of small and medium dairy-related enterprises, and a system of access to finance for dairy businesses. - support usaid feed the future crops in the beira corridor. In rwanda: this project worked in the dairy value chain from farmer to policy level and supported processors increase product quality. The project trained farmers, cooperatives, processors and provided subawards to stakeholders in the dairy industry. In tanzania: this project worked with 50 women farmer groups, helping to strengthen farm management and increase household incomes. In ethiopia, as a sub-grantee partner with save the children, this project aims to improve the nutritional diversity of local residents through training. In afghanistan, lolid partnered with iesc in an assistance project for small and medium-sized enterprises. The project provided technical assistance to project-supported businesses in marketing, business service provision, employee development and training. This project increased afghan business and employment. In bangladesh, an lolid project is building the capacity of small holder dairy producers and linking them to the market through training and a supply system. The project worked with four main producers to provide sustainable services and technical assistance to supply quality milk. In sri lanka, lolid, as sub to vega, supports a portfolio of diverse, small and medium-sized businesses to increase the productivity and scale of operations. The project has supported approximately 50 businesses to increase their business and create employment opportunities. Other projects are:- developing the capacity of dairy and maize cooperatives in east african countries. It assessed cooperatives, built their capacity in gap areas, and supported apex bodies to build their capacity to represent primary cooperatives. - working to help maize cooperatives promote better business relationships between members and input suppliers for a more reliable supply of quality seed. It supported maize cooperatives to build capacity in governance, communications, and agronomy. - providing expert volunteers to support processing and producing organizations and businesses in lebanon, egypt and morocco. The project has sent numerous volunteers who have increased the capacity of host businesses who receive technical assistance.
