OUR MISSION

To conserve and preserve open spaces and natural resources so that everyone may enjoy them, now and forever. Swift action is the cornerstone of implementing our mission.

When opportunities for land conservation arise, financial and legal resources are often needed on very short notice. Local land trusts and stewards often miss out on important preservation opportunities because they lack immediate access to money or legal assistance, and national land trust organizations are not always able to react quickly.

The LCA Trust can respond with emergency funding and legal assistance in these situationsoften making resources available within 24 hours.

Within me I feel a tremendous bond with nature, and I believe with all my heart that we all need to work to preserve our open space and to honor the world around us. LCAT, Inc. works to build awareness of this issue and to give financial assistance to protect valuable land and wild habitat. Once these resources are gone, they cannot be easily recovered. The time to honor, appreciate, and conserve the land is while it is still healthy and whole.

I think this non-profit is so important because it's filling a real need...to protect natural places close to home so people don't have to travel and spend a lot of money to visit the outdoors!

LCAT is an innovative and important organization that fills a niche no other land conservation and advocacy group does. Steve Meltzer, the founder, is passionate about providing immediate funding for land parcels--rural, argicultural, urban, and suburban--when local stewards are unable to act quickly to protect the land from development. LCAT also provides legal counsel to local land stewards when important land parcels are threatened. He is a wise steward himself, gives tirelessly, and has put together a dedicated advisory team. He's also reached out into the local community to mentor young people interested in internships with conservation organizations.

The Land Conservation and Advocacy Trust, Inc. (LCAT) provides legal guidance and hands-on assistance to residents of towns looking to save their fast disappearing open spaces. Developers have the money to hire high paid lawyers. This puts open space advocates who do not at a disadvantage. It's one of the main reasons residents cannot save land in their own towns for future generations or for farms. LCAT helps level the development playing field by offering legal expertise to residents/local governments during land acquisitions. The Earth can't stay green without the help of organizations like LCAT.

The pure passion Steven has for this cause is infectious. He asked me.. "where did you play when you were a kid?" Well, I spent most of my days exploring in the woods, sitting by ponds... simply experiencing the outdoors with my buddies. I didn't have to travel far to experience this.. I walked across the street, cut through my neighbors yard and I was in this special world. The smell of pine needles; the turtles and frogs in the pond—Steven wants all kids to experience this and is doing all that he can through LCAT to accomplish this.

I helped my Husband form the LCA Trust because of his passion for preserving natural spaces where people can enjoy them and where they will have the most impact. We are committed to the cause and to making this a successful organization.

I formed the LCA Trust to help preserve land that matters. We have developed the concept of IPARP. That is, we will measure our success by the impact we have per acre on real people (impact per acre on real people). Large land tracts in remote locations are great but we are more focussed on the the land next door that is accessible, visible and at risk. We also intend to compete for land in the rough and tumble land acquisition world. I have many years of experience doing just that for real estate developers and I hope to transfer these skills to serve our mission. Please get involved.

The Land Conservation and Advocacy Trust is a great concept and would be very helpful in a situation near where I live. Please do what you can to assist them in their mission.
